Growing Up Woes
I'm sure this has happened to everyone in their early to mid twenties - your group of friends slowly starts to drift apart, with people chasing careers, getting married, and having babies.
I suppose some people might call it "the circle of life" or maybe even "the American dream" (LOL), but I call it a "Cookie-cutter lifestyle".
For some reason I just can't accept that prepackaged lifestyle. Get a job, work your 9 to 5, get a wife, a house with a white picket fence, have some kids, and call it a life. I just can't do it. Especially not in my early 20s.
Some of my friends from high school, who are in the 24-27 (I'm 25) range all talk about "settling down" and all that jazz, but what I'm wondering is, how much life have these people actually experienced to be settling down from anything? Most people are bound by school for the first 22 or so years of their life, so what exactly are they settling down from? You're just getting started.
I guess the question comes down to "what do you do when all your friends are doing the family thing, and you don't want to go down that road"?
It's getting to the point where I can't even invite them to hangout or get dinner without their fiance or wife tagging along.
