I'm a junior in undergrad. So I met this hot fresh-off-the-boat french foreign exchange student with pretty limited english skills. I introduced myself at a foreign exchange thing at a bar, and then left and went to another bar with her and her friends. None of these girls have cell phones yet, so I got their emails and invited them to my party saturday. So they came over (after much confusion as to directions and such) and had a good time, it was a pretty great party. I had neither the time nor the desire to hit on the target girl, i had about thirty people over which I figure is all the better cuz I seem desireable and unavailable and such. So I sent out a group email today (sunday) thanking folks for coming and telling people what they had left behind at my place, she did indeed take the time to email me back and say she had a good time (and, "see later!")

So I'm pretty sure she gets the idea that I'm interested, I guess she seems like she's at least quite possibly interested in me. This girl's about a 9, I dunno what I am but I'm no real hottie looks wise.

So the question is, when do I invite her out for real? Should I leave the email to sit for 48 hours and let her think about it, then invite her out for next friday night? Or answer her now, and invite her for simple dinner during the week, with some american-movie-in-my-room action afterwards? Just looking for thoughts...

"How I Made Sure No Woman Ever Friend-Zoned Me Again"

She calls you when her car breaks down. When she needs help moving. When some guy she's actually dating treats her badly.

You're the listener. The reliable one. The guy who would treat her so much better, if she'd just open her eyes.

She won't. You trained her to see you as the low-effort option — the friend who requires zero risk and zero investment. Every favor dug the hole deeper.

The "22 Rules" break the pattern. You'll stop auditioning for a role she already cast and become the man she chases instead. It starts with Rule 1.

If she's a 9...

Wait 48 hours. Then send her a SHORT email that is ****y funny and needs a reply. But don't ask her out yet. Tease her, make her wonder if you are interested in her. Make her qualify herself to you. THEN ask her out.

Then flake a day before the date, if she suspects its because you had a sweeter offer all the better.

After that her interest levels should be as high as your going to get.

Apart from an emal, what IOIs have you had so far?

If I were you I would give it a couple of days, then email her to meet you on Thursday for a 'get together' date. Going on Friday can seem like another party type date. Most people associate the weekend with parties in college, so Thursday would be more of a real date for just the two of you. Remember to do an action date even if its just walking around town looking at stuff. It'll give you something to talk about. I'm sure you can handle this part. :)

P.S. If she was the only one of the group of her friends that replied it sounds like you're in.

haha well I don't think I'm going to try to confuse her that badly... normal girl that would sound good but this chick has to be confused enough already in a new country and such.

DifferentKind thats just about what I was thinking, sounds good - i agree about friday seeming like another party, i'll shoot her an email on tuesday or wednesday asking her out for thurs. night.

Anybody else have a special weakness for that french accent? so hot...

What I would do is this:

Like ADifferentKindofDJ said, wait for about 2 days before you write her. When you do write her, don't just write the usual "what's up?" type of e-mail. Write to her in French (just make sure it's super sh!tty, so it doesn't look like you took the time to figure her language out). I know it sounds lame, but those hottie foreign girls love that kind of stuff. Like everyone else has said, keep it short, sweet, ****y, and most importantly, funny. I recommend telling her that you'll show her around the town and then you can watch the "American movie" at the crib.

If she replies, then you're in the game.

The most important thing I have to say is: have fun. If the date's fun, she'll think of you whenever she's having fun elsewhere. It's a proven fact. It has something to do with adreneline or hormones. I'm not really sure. However, she'll associate good feelings with the time she spent with you. Good luck man.

P.S. I agree with you the French accent = OH LA LA :D

"Nervous Around Beautiful Women? There's a Rule for That"

I could talk to any woman I wasn't attracted to. Charming, funny, relaxed. Then a gorgeous woman looked my way and I'd become a sweating, babbling mess.

The fix took me years to find and ten minutes to learn. Nervousness and excitement are the same physical state — pounding heart, adrenaline, flushed face. Your brain just picks the label. And you can pick a better one.

Rule 16 shows you how. You feel the nerves, relabel them as excitement, and let that energy pour out as enthusiasm. Women notice the guy radiating it. They always do.

Ah now there's some innovative thinking...

Although when I studied in Argentina and people would try to write me **** or talk to me in English, it would really just piss me off because they don't speak english and i can understand written spanish perfectly well... plus it might seem kinda cutesy to go all french on her. thinking about it...

You could just go to freetranslation.com, type it in english, convert to french, and tell her you used a translator so it would be easy. You accomplish everything this way.

You get your clear point accross, she can understand it, its quick and easy, she will like that its in french but wont think you an AFC for taking 2 hours to translate, if you point out you used a translator she will know you only spent 5 minutes on it. The best part is freetranslation.com you can type a whole paragraph then just press translate.

This whole "note in her language" thing seems hardcore desperate and too eager to please, but if you're set on going that route, take the extra half hour and walk to the French department at your university. Find a professor doing his/her office hours, explain your situation, that you don't speak French, and ask if they'd be willing to translate a SHORT note (keep it brief) for you. If you're polite, they'll do it for you.

But, for the love of all things holy, don't throw something into freetranslations or babelfish. What you'll end up with (unless you use BEYOND simple declarative sentences) is a note that looks like it was written by someone mildly retarded, riddled with improper grammer and incorrect word usage.

If you want to see my point, throw something into freetranslations and get it in French. Then take the EXACT French text and translate it back to English again and see what you get.

(The last paragraph came out thusly: If you want to see my point, launch something in freetranslations and the obtains in French. Take the EXACT French text and translate the supports to the English and sees again that you obtains.)

Yes it does have to be simple. I mean if you do it with anything more than plain simple text, then its going to seem like you did exactly what you suggested, which is going like at least 30 min to an hour out of your way to basicallys ay will you go out with me. I mean his not should be 3 lines at best, and shoudl be simple, so freetranslation is good enough for that.

hahaha, yeah that's what I'd like to avoid. I'll just throw in a french word for hello or something i think that'll get the point across just fine

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

jeeeezus

so check this out, I emailed that girl two days in advance to go out for a nice fun date on thursday night. I never got a response - I was really bummed out. Her friend emailed me like six hours after I emailed her, which I figured was too much of a cooincidence - there was probably some sort of love triangle there that one of them didn't want to mess with. Anyway, I never got a reply, so game over I thought.

So today I was going through my gmail "drafts" and realized I had a "draft" of the email I thought I had sent her to ask her out. Which could have meant that I never actually sent her the email. So I go back to this long chain, to look for my message. Before finding it, I instead find... her reply! The email I sent her was part of a gmail chain that had like 150 messages in it, and a bunch of them were these constant error messages I kept getting. So I just must have missed it in all of that garbage. I am such an idiot. So more confusion to throw onto the language barrier. I'm sure she thinks I'm a total flake now after ignoring her at my party and then asking her out but not replying to her acceptance.

So I emailed her and apologized, but all is not necessarily well. Instead of accepting my thursday night concert/dinner/movie offer, this was her reply:

"Hey

I will be happy to go to the concert tomorrow. What kind of music is it? After, I think I will come back at home. Say me the hour and the meeting place.

see you tomorrow = Ã_ demain

c*****
"

So I guess that probly means she didn't want to hook up anyway, but maybe she just has class Friday morning, who knows...

I told her I'd email her for next weekend.

Anybody ever miss a date like this before?
