"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

I'm sure quite a few men on this board who like myself, are currently working hard on the path toward self-improvement might have experienced this as well. In keeping with my regular, three-days-a-week, workout schedule at my gym since last spring, I have noticed not only that my muscles have significantly grown-biceps, especially...including chest, shoulders and triceps. I am regaining confidence in myself very steadily and have made it a practice to always think positively about myself no matter what the outcome may be. I am determined never to let any form of failure or rejection to cause me to develop insecurities about myself and wallow in self-pity. Rather, all experiences, positive or negative, will encourage me to appreciate myself more.

However, with this transformation, I have noticed a surprising outcome that I wasn't thinking about initially. Aside from getting more attention from women be it on the street, in malls or when I walk into a room, I now get frowns and unfriendly stares from many men, who I have chosen to call "the haters" for purposes of this post. When I wear any piece of clothing (T-shirts, turtle necks, muscle shirts, dress shirts) that show off my muscular and toned definition, there are always groups of men be it at my school's computer lab, in bars and restauratns who look at me funny. I normally don't pay attention to them, but I've noticed that most of them tend to be skinny guys. The same thing happens at my gym.

One night at a club several months ago, a woman with her boyfriend on the dance floor, after noticing me, pulled up her arm to her boyfriend and pointed at my biceps. I had been holding a glass of beer at the time, so I guess she got a chance to get a good look at it then. The impression I get from this men is that they look at me and think that I probably get with a whole bunch of women and that I'm unfriendly and unapproachable, whereas I too am hustling with the dating game just like other men out there trying to improve themselves. It's almost become like the same thing women do when they feel threatened by the presence of another woman or someone they think is their competition. I guess the same goes for the animal kingdom, where perhaps the less masculine ones feel threatened by the others. Nonetheless, I'm grateful that my hard work seems to be paying off. I began going to the gym consistently since last February, and I make it a habit. I just wish men out there who for whatever reason may feel the need to be insecure in my presence would also make an effort to improve themselves. None of us is perfect. We can all learn from each other and we should encourage and help each other rather than fight amongst ourselves.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

Definately - the same guys would cower if you were to question them as to what their problem is.

I would advise not flaunting your physique in peoples faces though - there are limits before people get pissed off or even begin to mock you - including girls as they WILL mock a muscly guy if he's dressing in silly tight shirts.

There's a guy me and my buddies refer to as 'Superman the Early Years' in our town - he's no more bigger than us but it's hilarious seeing him with his extremely tight shirts on all the time. It looks rather desperate and rediculous.

If you're humble with your physique it's hard to piss anyone off and comes accross much better IMHO.

There will always be haters though, some male egos are just too fragile. :)

Just my 2 cents,

The Muscly Jerk

Listen to musclyjerk. If you wear tight shirts and other stuff to "show off" then you just look like a try hard and deserve to be made fun of. Trying to impress comes off as needy.

As i become fuller and more defined my shirts get tighter and tighter but i hardly go out of my way to show off anything and don't wear too tight shirts. My exgirlfriend would remark she liked some of my "going out" shirts which were "snug" but they weren't tight so much that it looked like I was trying to show "hey look i have muscles!!!"

I think the same thing when i see girls in shirts that show off cleavage. I'm always thinking "ok lady i know you have breasts i can see through the shirt you don't have to show me half of them for me to notice."

Re:

Espi, thank you very much. I think your response fits best to my current situation based on this post. For the record though, I don't purposefully wear tight shirts or do that to show off my body. Like it is with most men who work out, my T-shirts have naturally begun to fit better and are kind of tighter as my body has expanded. Plus, I don't wear muscle T-shirts all the time. I have a muscle T-shirt that really didn't used to show my definition well at all during my skinny days, but now it works perfectly. The fact of the matter is that as a man, you can't please everybody. People would criticize you no matter what you do. Whenever you demonstrate that you feel comfortable in your own skin, folks suddenly start to come out of hiding and more often against you.

What about women who in general tend to always walk around showing off what they have-big butts, big breasts, etc. and do so deliberately? We as males expect them to do that and we see it as normal. We pursue them because of these things. Interestingly, although I don't dress to show off to anyone necessarily or to get into people's faces, I've noticed that I've been getting many looks of interest from women when they see me. And with the males, it's often as if they feel threatened and uncomfortable for some reason. It all comes down to how your body looks when you wear muscle T-shirts, I think. If the shirts fit your definition perfectly and you look nicely muscular and toned, it will work in your favor. For instance, today I am wearing a blue, turtle neck, size "L," but it fits my body perfectly and shows my definition. The biceps, triceps, chest and shoulders seem very noticeable. Before I began working out, very few women at my school, at least 90% white, bothered to give me the time of day when I was the skinny black dude with glasses on. These days, more seem to be looking and just today, I ran into one of them in the hallway and unlike most of the others, made eye contact with me when I looked into her eyes. I said "How are you doing, lady?" and she smiled at me and said: "Hi!"

I wore one of those muscle T-shirts to a night club once and the moment I walked into the dance floor, from the looks of many of the women there, including those dancing with men, I felt confident that I could possibly dance with any of them I wanted, and get their numbers. One black female immediately came up to me so that we would dance together when she saw me dancing and appeared to have noticed the muscle mass and biceps. I choose to be humble with those things, definitely. It is the right way to go about it. I'm just saying the fact is that there are many haters out there, men against other men, women against other women, who reveal themselves once they think people have something that might cause them to be noticed.

"I'm Not Looking for Anything Serious Right Now"

When a woman says it, guys hear a confession. A heads-up. A scheduling conflict.

Here's the translation: I don't feel anything. Right now. With you.

Watch what happens when a man triggers actual attraction. The busy career, the recent breakup, the "not in a place to date" — all of it evaporates instantly. The same woman who was guarding her freedom is suddenly free every night.

The "22 Rules" explain why. When the right switches flip, her timeline rearranges itself around you.

If random strangers, be it women or men, start hating on you then understand that you are doing something right.

Thanks, persiangino. It takes a bit of adjusting and adaptation to eventually get used to accepting the welcome and unwelcome results that result from working out.

Not always the case. I know plenty of successful people who are loved by many in the club and it has little to do with the way they look, it has to do more with the way they act.

Haters come in different forms but sometimes it could be the vibe you give out, which results in hate. It is not something you are aware of.

Guys who dress well and who are naturally charming give out friendly vibes. This in turn disarm everyone in the room. You know you are on top of the world when women want to sleep with you and men want to befriend you or even be you.

Now if you are not a charming person and walk around acting tough and use your hard body to show off it gives out the vibe: "don't fvck with me, I am better then you" and you come out as a real assh*le. You place in a catagory as the over jocked pissed off guy who is there solely to pick up women/pick a fight and thump AFC down like back in the day in highschool. Also if you are a real loud drunk and take off your shirt like in the club to show off, you end up losing more points in the eyes of the crowd.

That is just the way it is. You can either be more friendly and charming to everyone or if you don't care about it don't worry about it. People are judgmental creatures and will lump you into specfic catagory unless you prove them otherwise. Its best to have qualities of both worlds: Everyone likes the charming funny muscle guy who is there solely to have a good time and not have a specific agena or being a prick.

Here is an example:

Its all about the vibe you give off. Take a look at this pic:
http://www.torontonightclub.com/gallery/albuu69/acx

Now suppose you are walking in a crowded club and you accidently bump shoulder to shoulder with the guy in the left looking the way he looked at the picture you would think: hey that guy seems cool, all smiley and happy (got a chick around him why wouldn't he??) it was all an accident. Now suppose you bump shoulder to shoulder with the guy on the right (with the same facial experession and attitude in the picture) you would naturally think: "who is this assh*le!?? looks like he is looking for trouble". You don't know who they are but you automatically already have placed them at different end of the specturm without anyone one of them opening their mouths.

"She Liked You in March. It's October Now."

Attraction runs on a clock.

She flirted for weeks. Touched your arm. Found reasons to be alone with you. And you were careful. Respectful. Waiting for the right moment.

The moment had a shelf life. It expired around month two, and by the time you asked her out, she'd quietly filed you under "little brother."

One of the hardest lessons inside the 22 Rules: women rarely wait. Interest either grows or it decays, and nothing decays it faster than a man who never moves.

Make the move while she's still inventing reasons to be near you.

Also because humans tend to give breaks to 'good looking' people. We're less defensive around beautiful people than around average or ugly people...

Looks play a role no doubt but so is everything else. If you walk around looking pissed as oppose to being happy, and relaxed you will give out a different vibe. A simple smile and a relaxed approach goes a long way. There is a reason why some guys tend to do poorly with women in clubs beacuse beside's their looks they are too tense and women can sense that.

^ ^ ^ Agreed, but realize all things being equal we're going to give the benefit of the doubt to the physically attractive person.
