If you are chatting, texting or talking to someone via whatsapp on your phone, is it possible for the other person to know which city you are in?

For example, if you post something on FB with your phone, your location is displayed.

This girl I'm pounding wants me to download whatsapp but first I want to know if she can find out which city I'm currently in when communicating with her through that app.

I dont think it does, but on the offchance - you can probably check the settings on it.

How so?

Let's say I live in NYC and I travelled to LA. I talk to her from LA. She will get my NYC number, right? I have no problem with that. I'll have a problem if she can find out where I am everytime we talk.

The number whatsapp is associated with is the one who's location can be identified.

For example I live in a 416 number and have whatsapp on my phone , I download it and the service will be activated against my number. Now whosoever I have on my phone saved I can chat with them and they can see my number against which they originally saved me cuz it'll be using data network.

Once I change my number to a 647 code, and I message them from my new number it won't say "xxx messaged you" rather it'll just say "647xxxx" messaged you and then once they save the number it'll display your name.

The phone number only plays the role for adding someone that's it.

If someone has your phone number or against which they saved you , they can simply put the area code in google and see which area the code belongs to.

Whatsapp uses data to chat but whatsapp on receivers device recognizes you either through your name in the contact list or if they don't have you saved it'll just display your phone number. However in the KiK app it'll use username and that alone.

I went to Vegas from Canada and I was chatting with girls down there to meet

at night and they asked for my number (Canadian ofcourse)

Now I didn't have a travel plan so, I texted em through whatsapp. Now the

catch is that she did see my number but it'll be a Canadian number she saw.

Whatsapp uses numbers to identify and connect users, whereas skype/kik/ etc

uses usernames/email addresses.

If you want the user not to being able to judge where you from then either just swap SIM card and add them

on your new number so as when you send a message they see the new number on which the location would

be on or simply just don't use whatsapp rather use a different app.

If you are messaging a random girl , she will see your number cuz that's the only way whatsapp recognizes and identifies users. When you send her a message her app would say "619-xxx-xxx" and then your

message underneath. She can pop the first three "619" in google and find out which area the code belongs to. If you want to stay anonymous, just use KIK or skype.
