Make small talk (weather, school, sports, cars, whatever), make fun of her lightly, all that. Ask open ended questions. When things are going well, excuse yourself and get the #.

Or you could go read the Bible.

The bible's always good (Pimpologist made some good posts about conversation that are linked in there)

Ask questions that you can link to other ones, and rephrase the answer in your new question such as

guy: so, are you into any sports?
girl: I like volleyball.
guy: volleyball, why volleyball?
girl: a lot of my friends play it.
guy: oh, it's all their fault then..
girl: *insert playful banter*

You could do a million things off just ONE question as a starter. **** man, you got all the options. and thats just one stupid question!!!

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.
