Right now I live in Chicago, and the child support laws here are crazy. They take out 20 percent of your NET income for one child, regardless of how much you make or how much your spouse makes. So if you make 500k a year gross, 309k net after taxes/social security/etc, you have to throw down over 60k a year for a kid (basically equal to another 100k+ salary before taxes for the mother), which is ridiculous.
