Since you guys are older and have gone thru more stuff i thought i might post this here. What do you do when a girl wants you to stop doing something you like just because she doesnt like it? I know i shouldnt be drinking or smoking but she wants me to stop cause she said. SHe also told me that if i didnt that she would probably break up with me. If shes gonna get mad about it hten i dont really wanna be with her. But i wanted to know what you guys would do?

Look, it's obvious that this girl doesn't love you. If she's willing to break up with you based off of something like that.

A man is sovereign, and engages in those things he enjoys doing. If she expresses concern that it's bad for your health, or something like that (i.e. not -telling- you what to do), that's one thing. But to give you an ultimatum: "either me or <whatever>", you'd be submitting to her will if you drop whatever it is she doesn't like. Then she'd know she exercises control over you and would likely get bored with you in a short time anyway.

Your GF is being too controling. Tell her to back off, she's not your Mom. If she's giving you ultimatums like that then she can go find some other AFC putz and run his life.

But on the other hand....Smoking is really bad for you, and you shouldn't be doing that anyway. As long as you keep the drinking in moderation there's nothing wrong with it.

She's right that you should stop smoking/drinking. BUT she is wrong in trying to dictate your life. If you do decide to stop, do it because YOU choose to, not because some fool of a girl tells you you must.

This is who you are and she must accept it. By the same token, you now know who she is...are you willing to accept that?

By the fact that you're on this board, asking what to do, show's you're conflicted. You want to be with her yet you have this nagging feeling that you're about to be her biotch if you do what she says. And deep down, you know that goes against everything that makes you a free-thinking individual. Don't let emotions cloud what you really know.

wowww... she sounds controlling, even for a girl. i mean i'll tease my bf cuz he smokes and its not good for him but lets get serious here: its not that big a deal. and as for drinking.. going partying on weekends is a part of every healthy childhood. thats not to say that i like being around my man when we're drunk, we argue half the time so i usually just avoid drinking with him, no biggie.

sounds to me like shes testin you. call her on it, tell her that its not really fair for her to ask you to change. and man, if it really bugs her that much, only drink & smoke when youre lady friends not around...
