Sup gentlemen,

I was thinking today about the term "success". I'm sure it means different things to different people. Also, societal perception of success maybe very different from individual perceptions, etc.

My definition of success is simple: To maximize my happiness. I personally think that we are the happiest when we give ourselves to a greater cause, and work our tails off towards that. Really applying and achieving our potential while maintaining a balanced lifestyle is in my opinion integral to how I define success.

To me success means:

- being highly educated (MD or PhD), and having a "professional job"... I'm a total nerd, so I enjoy that stuff, and could care less about the prestige etc.

- It also means being in the top 1% of income earners. This is easier to achieve in Canada than the US, as the "cut-off" to get into the top 1% of income earners is only around 250k annual income. Obviously a job alone (unless you're a medical specialist) probably won't cut it, so I run a business as well.

- Having an elite physique. To me this means being a competitive physique athlete (in bodybuilding/fitness modeling, etc) as well competing in things like Olympic lifting/powerlifting.

- Having a healthy and balanced family/social life. Obviously this is harder to define in concrete tangible terms.

- Maintaining a high level of integrity and being able to contribute back to society by volunteering/donating etc.

- Learning as much as about the world as I can, even in areas outside of my professional expertise. I'm obsessed with watching documentaries. Stuff like quantum mechanics and cosmology absolutely fascinates me.

I spend my life trying to achieve success. Its not easy, but few things that are worthwhile are.

My question to you is:

What does success mean to you? Why are these things important to you and how powerful of a driving force are they in your life?

Independence is my definition of success.

Time independence - being able to use my time as I desire.
Income independence - not having to worry about earning money to pay for the necessities.
Lifestyle independence - Live the way I want to live, not conforming to any cultural nor governmental lifestyles.

I have yet to achieve any of this, but its a goal worth pursuing for.

I think success is dynamic and changes throughout life.

I've achieved much of what I sought after 5--8 years ago. I completed college and grad school, got my masters, passed my boards and got my medical license, moved back to my home state and have a job with the best lifestyle in the city. I dont make crazy $$$....just enough to live comfortably and pursue my key hobbies. I could care less about an MD or PhD.

I hit a lot of gym milestones a few years ago, so while I'd love to one day bench over 400 again and pull over 600, I'm more interested in mountaineering and other endeavors right now and just being in all-around good condition. My biceps rupture caused me to shift gears with physical goals.

With women I have no more milestones I want to achieve. I've banged plenty. I've dated more than plenty. I just want virgin bride, lol. Is that too much to ask?

I do want to get into professional writing as well. This is totally up to my own effort, like anything else. I need to get my writing off the forums and blogs and into print. So that's just cresting the horizon for me. I have scientific publications, now I want more social/nonfiction stuff.

In a nutshell for me success is consistently improving myself and achieving personal victories, on the backdrop of consistent quality relationships with friends, fam, and women.

living in the middle of effing nowhere
success to me is getting my sh!t done the way i want ,when i want.
but it seems there are too many effing bottlenecks, idiots, retards and lazy faggots and fagotees between me and it

honestly, i used to have big BIG dreams, like going to space and stuff.
but now i'm starting to realize that its not possible to reach them due to the great many retards on this planet and their pvssified "ethics".

bottlenecks everywhere, paperwork, stupid a$$ requirements, strikes, holidays, lazy snorelax being positioned as chief of section, then bringing with him an army of lazy fvcks just to slack around and get on my nerves.

waiting for a tiny effing piece of paper, while the 20 something co-workers are nowhere in sight, then i find them gang-flirting a fat warpig,
running beta game on a beta whale in an office run by a beta gay.

i could go on, im seriously burned out guys, lost motivation, everything.

so one fine day i went to my work, sat down and as an assistant said"oh you need to do X and Y" ,
i sipped on my ceylon earl gray, pointed at air and commented "you see this? its the invisible fvck i do not give."
"now shoo and grab me a waffle before you flirt with that cvnt whome i wouldnt bang if my life depended on it
" << i actually said that.

when i see that every woman around me is as stupid as a stick, when i dont have intelligent, proper talk with anyone for 4 effing years, when i stopped watching tv 1 year ago, bcuz every time i turn it on i swear to god i feel like my IQ gets reduced by 0.9%.

when i see a bloody woman acting like she is "untouchable" doing anything and everything she wants, while betas just nod and watch her.
people without work ethics, lazy idiots, slackers, slow fagotees thinking the world is waiting for them, people with no sense of responsibility
all of these things is driving me nuts.

in my AFC days i could get some motivation by thinking "oh ill do this for my GF" or "il have a good loving girl if i try my best at work..."
now i feel nauseated just writing that crap.

i know im b!tching but i need to ask wtf should i do? i stopped caring about life. but i know i need to get my sh!t together since im still in my 20s and build a life with good finances and a proper goal.
but there is no motivation.nothing.
i'de appreciate any input.

Success to me is getting to the point where I have F U money... the ability to say it to everyone I feel like, instead of having to be nice to the stupid because I MAY need their business

Whoa you sound pretty angry there buddy...

I know it can be frustrating to deal with people like that. If you wanna work for your self and do your thing consider starting your own business. I couldn't agree with you more about the TV thing. I only watch documentaries and sports. Channels like discovery science, national geographic, history channel, etc are great.

Maybe you need to take a step back and really really figure out what makes you happy and why. Then formulate and plan to go out and achieve these things. I don't know the details of your life so I can't offer more assistance, but I've always found that introspection is one the best ways to chart a satisfying life path. Its hard to know where to go, and what to do when you don't know what you're aiming for. And there's nothing wrong with having big dreams. Just make sure you have a plan and effort to achieve them.

What's success? Having the ability to go where I want, when I want, with who I want, for as long or as little as I want, and when I get there do what I want.
That's been a gauge for me over the years. Everytime I complete some career/life/relationship level I look at it in regards to the above. Does it expand the above statement or contract it? IF it expands it I have added to my life success. If it is going to contract it I ask the question,"will this at a later date expand the above". Sometimes a sacrifice for a time is necessary. I'll weigh it against the longterm return.

Man i wrote a post earlier today about confidence and I think I was heading more toward this question, you wrote it for me lol. This is what has been on my mind lately. The haves and the have nots. The guys with motivation who accomplish and those that are content in their little shells of lives.

To me, as others have said, success is constantly improving yourself each day. Always working toward a goal, whatever it may be as long as it is important to you. My success began a few years ago when I found this site and really started taking a good hard look at my life and how I wanted it to be. First I had to destroy bad habits that would not allow me to progress. Then I began to formulate a plan and step by step achieve my goals, through school, fitness, hobbies, and simply being a better person to other people. When I finally begin my career and buy a house, I will be in the maintaining stage as I like to call it, where I have reached success and just need to keep doing the right things.

Success is what you make it. But I am sure we can unanimously agree that success definitely is not procrastination, laziness, or having no goals. Success and action, as far as I am concerned, are synonyms.
