Can you actually provide a scientific source of mercury in vaccinations that is statistically significant to mercury in fish or mercury in water supplies. And I'll raise you one by asking what your logic is to explain the recent link towards antibiotics and increased levels asthma.

What makes you think that if such a cure existed and big pharma (or even better little pharma) managed to figure it out that they wouldn't want to profit from it. The cure to cancer is worth more then all of the net markets of the world. AIDS would be lower but still extremely profitable,especially given the universal health care programs in most of the developed world.

What would any company hold back on something like this for?

Out of curiosity what republican said that? If defense contracts were transparent in 2004 they would have been much more visible at the republican convention. When it comes down to cost/profit calculations pharma is pretty low.

Profits from defense contractors are at minimum 4'xs that of pharma right now, the entertainment industry (copyright laws) is estimated at twice that of pharma, financial firms net even higher profits, but the very drugs that prolong our lifes are attacked for making enough money to sustain and discover new cures?

Honestly can anyone here logically explain to me why pharma doesn't deserve to live by the same guides of capitalism that the rest of the world does?

I can not recall, and I can not even find it on google, so you might as well throw out what I said. I remember reading it, but since I can't find a source, it might as well never existed =/.

Anyways, I am not bashing the power the pharmaceutical industry is doing, every industry is trying to accomplish what the pharmaceutical industry is trying to do. I know people who work for the industry, they worked hard on their science degree and they are conducting some awesome research in that field. I almost went into therapeutic protein research myself before finding passion in a different scientific field.

What I don't like is how the politicians gave them the power they have today.

At the pharmacy i work at, there is this guy. He's a good looking young dude, but has frequent and recurring stomach ulcers.

He goes to the doctor, the doctor doesn't know what is wrong, but prescribes him with a prescription to treat the symptoms (stomach pain)

He comes to us, we get his money, we give him the RX.

A month later, he goes back to the same doctor, who in turn writes him the same prescription.

He comes to Us, we get his money again, and we hand him RX.


He will never get better. It is an evil cycle. Rather than working on what is wrong with him, the doctors only "fix" the symptoms, which does not solve the problem.

My boss even told me that, even though she is the one making the money.

What power does big pharma really have? It is only recently that they have begin to advertise and there has been a huge backlash because of it. The reason that drugs have had to market themselves and have become more expensive is due to insurance companies (scams) and a ton of foreign manufacturers that are willing to ignore US patents and produce illegal generic pharmaceuticals. How many people are willing to take drugs manufactured in a country that has no oversight (for example produces toys with lead paints) instead of shelling out a couple of extra dollars for something that they know is safe?

This is a wag the dog issue. If it wasn't for the profits of pharma companies who would be producing cutting edge drugs (and yes they do exist)? Western life is based on intellectual property as currency. If we begin to let our patents slid on drugs slid away we run the course of losing everything.

A lot of these conspiracy theories aren't as crazy as LMS's punctuation would have you believe.

The incidence of Autism has increased by a factor of 30 or so in the past 20 years. Meanwhile, among the Amish and others who refuse childhood vaccinations, the rate of Autism has remained the same: exactly zero.

The other funny thing is the prohibition of lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies for Autism caused by mercury in vaccines, in case it ever gets enough proof to go to court. That's a mighty specific thing to outlaw, just in case. It was put into the Patriot Act, so that it would be passed without reading.

However, the FDA has tried to find a correspondence, and hasn't. Some communities have a greater rate of vaccination, but do those communities have a greater rate of Autism? No, it just seems to be this mysterious overall increase.

I love the pharm industry it puts food on my table, gas in my benz, and paid for my 40K a year college then 30K a year Med Schooling.

But how would you feel about the pharm. industry or the health industry if it weren't cover by insurance and you had to work in it for much lower pay because it was based on free market competitveness like most everything else? Or how would you feel if insurance paid for herbs and for "natural" healers, who in turned passed laws and regulations through lobbying? Or what if it was auto workers with the gravy train, or or insert your industry.

Your argument is honest but a weak defense of the industry. If this is the main motivation for people to be in the pharm and healthcare business it's the wrong motivation.

This is the exact view I would expect from a corrupt politician.

Something like, "Why should I give a **** if I'm screwing over the people who elected me? As long as I'm getting paid an obscene amount of money it's all cool right?"

Substitute the word 'customers' for 'people who elected me' and there you have it.
