Weight belt question

Yesterday was a landmark for me, I broke the 300lb mark on squats. Not a lot of weight for a lot of you, but the first time for me ever, so I'm excited.

Quick question, any advise on whether I should start using a weight belt for squats? If so, what is a good weight to transition to using the belt.

I do not use a belt for any exercise, but am questioning it because I'd like to keep upping the weight with squats and deadlifts.

Alright, I've done a fair amount of research online. It seems it's a mixed bag of opinions on the use of weight belts.

Input guys, do you use a weight belt?

I start using one when i get above 80% or so of my max weight at that rep range. I don't use one for warmups.

It's just for safety. And it really allows me to push my abs out hard on squats and deadlifts. I'm not really all that good at doing that yet without the tactile feedback of pressing against the belt. I don't care that my core will be marginally weaker. I care that my back doesn't blow out because I have a bad day. I'm not trying to be super 300 lb powerlifter guy.

Did you know when squating and dling you're supposed to wear those belts that have one skinny side and one fat side backwards? I just learned that a few weeks ago and it really does make a difference.

Good advise, and was along with what I was thinking. Just use the belt for the heavier sets. Thanks..
