No, it's not for SoSuave. Now that's out of the way, here's the deal... I've had the website "JBSpencer.com" for some time now. I was brainstorming and came up with another name that I thought might be either good to resell or switch my website over to... "CenterPixel.com". Since I've got a digital SLR, I thought it was fitting. So, here's the deal - and keep in mind that whichever website I keep as my main site will be on any business cards I get printed up in the future - which one do you all consider to be more "professional"? JBSpencer.com or CenterPixel.com?

Oh yeah, I've already registered CenterPixel so don't even think about trying to nab it and sell it to me for more. :p

I didn't read your post at first...I went to see if I could get centerpixel.com haha.

It completely depends what your business is. JBSpencer works fine if you are primarily working as a self-employed contracter. But, if you want to build a corporation, then you need the branding power of a name like centerpixel.com.

Oh man...

do

not

use

the

word

pixel

in

your

name

Please.. think of the children! :p

I know its' registered but... 'Pixel' names are incredibly overused amongst the artistic community in a broader sense. That said, personally, I think jbspencer sounds fine.

It is 'YOU'; for work of your nature, often going under a slight variation of your name, as you've done, is the most effective, and professional front.

I would really let the cogs turn that bit longer if you choose a name change, but each to their own, I guess i've stated which of the two options takes my fancy ;).

Nice work there man, BTW.

Welcome to the freelance world! (assuming you are)

If you're a one-man freelance team, JB Spencer is fine (as long as that's actually your name). If you're planning an actual business that isn't reliant on your skills/personality, then I like Centrepixel better.

Its all about what you want to brand. Do you want people in future to say "Oh hey, that's Joseph Bumhole Spencer, the famous freelance photographer!" or "Hey that's CentrePixel, the famous photography company!"?

I prefer JBspencer.

It has a good ring to it. It sounds in control and professional.

Centerpixel sounds like some other digital art companies like : Digipixel, Centerbyte, Digibyte etc. It will not set you apart. Also, since your photographic work seems to be of the freelance nature, JBspencer will convey that better than Centerpixel. When I hear Centerpixel, I see a bunch of fat guys around a computer using photoshop and Maya.

JBspencer is a unique company name and should be kept, I believe.

I'm sure you'll make a choice that will best suit you though. Good luck.

CenterPixel.com on a card sounds to me like you work at a 1hour photo shop. JBSpencer.com sounds like an online real estate agent or law firm.

But if I was to be impressed by one of them I'ld say JBSpencer.com was more "professional". Although CenterPixel.com is a more "friendlier" name that could branch out to be a franchise.

Centerpixel sounds.......yeah gay and weird. Don't use it. jbspencer.com is fine. Depends what you want to photograph eventually.

I see two issues with website names. If you want to have a more descriptive name it is easy to let others know what you do but hard to brand. If you get a name like centerpixel (as opposed to centerfold I'm sure ;) ) it is hard for people to know what you do but easier to remember once branded. Branding however requires some sort of a big exposure (think Google or iPod) and you either need lots of cash, like Apple, or you need leverage (i.e. a well known person in the industry to recommend you)

A good way of devising a unique and relevant name is to create a list of words that correlate to your field/work ethic/reputation etc, and find the translation of another language, ie french, japanese, etc.

Actually my name is Thomas Brickensteiner. I just liked using some random name for a website.

Can you hear the sarcasm? :p

Thanks much for the replies, looks like it'll stay JBSpencer.

Just go with your new idea "CenterPixel". I just looked at the name 2wice and I already remember it but the other one I don't know what comes first... The S or the B in the initials ( I do know it starts with a J) That is if you want others to remember it more easily, I'd go with CenterPixel. It is better and I have an Idea what that page is about unlike the other one. Let us know which you choose.

Stick to your name, diablo. In any artistic field, the work is always associated with the artists name, not the company name. It's just more logical to continue to use your name because it will ensure that anyone interested in your work will have an easier time finding you. It'll save you on advertising too, should you become well known.

I knew a guy who literally registered thousands of domain names, but not to sell them. He pointed them all to one forum. He also hijacked Al-Qaida's website and redirected it to that same forum. He was all over the news for doing that. He was a pornographer. He got really sick when he built his dream home and it had mold. After much suffering he ended his life a few months ago.

Anyhoo...he used to talk about getting all kinds of offers for different domain names he'd registered, especially all the political ones. He also used some kind of program that would buy up expiring domain names before the previous owner had a chance to renew them. Underhanded but entirely legal....
