I disagree with you whistler...there are studies that show the mind can affect the material world.

There was a study (I'm sure you can find it online if you search) where doctors rubbed what patients were told was poison ivy on their arm. in reality it was not poison ivy. What followed was many of the patients started displaying the physical reactions of if they had really come into contact with posion ivy. Point is the mind caused the symptoms to appear.

I love how this post defines a crystal clear line between optimists and pessimists.

Half of you apparently require hard facts, evidence, and instructions on how to use it before you'll accept it for being truth. Just know that you guys--whoever you are who are advocating "critical thinking" and claiming that it's utter "marketing b.ull****"-- fit right into a stereotype; The Bandwagoner, unwilling to accept something until it has been proved scientifically and statistically by...now here's the catch...somebody else. Try it out yourself, whats the worst that could happen?

And to you guys claiming its marketing b.s...if you can watch it for free, why not? are you afraid how it might affect you? or do you really need to go watch the television instead for the next hour?

Apparently a bunch of you completely missed the point of this video...pretty sad, it was easy to sift through the b.s.(i admit some of the guys on there exaggerate abit) and take the useful information out, but some of you get completely caught up in the exaggerations and stretches of the imagination that you fail to see what this video is actually telling you...

whatever, not my problem...
peace

Well, the mind IS material... but nevermind...

What you're mentioning is similar to a placebo effect, which is nothing new or earth-shattering.

There are no studies that demonstrate mental control over matter beyond one's own body.

I'd say more so between realists and idealists.

I get where you're coming from.

There are a lot of grand ideas out there. However, if you'd like to get at "the truth" it helps to weed out the bad apples as soon as possible.

There are plenty of mesmerizing and empowering ideas that are in fact consistent with reality as we know it (or at least not in disagreement with reality). Check out Spinoza's or Einstein's conception of God, for example. Or check out David Bohm's philosophical ideas. They are more like ways to conceive of the world than they are claims about how the world actually works.

I suggest reading E.S. Brightman's concept of the universe. I believe that if you read through it you will quickly realize that materialism cannot account for supenatural occurences, while E.S. Brightman's "personal idealism" can.

i saw the first hour only and will finish tomorrow cuz i gotta crash. thanks for sharing, really enjoyed it.

if this is your first time coming across something like " the law of attraction," and you want more insight, check out "the power of the subconscious mind" by joseph murphy.

Thanks. I'll check out Brightman. He sounds cool. Off the bat, though, I don't think most people who appreciate materialism worry about explaining supernatural occurrences...

check out this story on msn:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15759622/?GT1=8717

i remember reading some where that you're more likely to be involved in a car accident than a plane crash. this guy luckily avoided the first crash. he told friends, "I was supposed to be on that plane." one month later, he dies in another plane crash.

in the book "unlimited power" by anthony robbins, he tells the story of a daredevil who performed high-wire stunts. Although he successfully pulled off these stunts numerous times he constantly had premonitions of falling to his death. low and behold, he fell to his death while performing the same stunt.

these are some trippy stories. coincidence or the law of attraction taking place? although the plane crash victim avoided the first crash, he was probably bugging out. thoughts of the plane crash probably persisted in his mind; which in turn attracted the second plane crash to occur... this time with him in it. same as the daredevil. he constantly thought of falling to his death, and the law of attraction carried out what he was foreseeing.

i don't know. my mind is just wandering. the law of attraction seems to explain a lot of coincidences/trippy **** that happens in this world.

I don't really believe that form of Law of Attraction, that your mind can control events. Call me niave, i just can't imagine it.

However, I do believe that we can calibrate our minds to see possibilities for our future. If you consciously go for something big in life, your sub-conscious mind goes to work on how to attain it, and if you are in tune[your actions/thoughts match] with what you want, then you will be able to spot the opportunities that your subconscious mind sees.

For example, you're driving along the highway and your buddy in the passenger seat starts talking about BMWs...For awhile, you'll start seeing BMWs everywhere..If he mentions Fords, your mind will start seeing Fords everwhere, etc.. That's a really simple example...

So if you have goals in your mind and you focus on them daily, then your subconsciousness will work out the step-by-step's of the goal and essentially tell you how to get there. The whole idea is that your mind has to be in tune with your goals, or else all the effort goes to waste.

You have to really want it, in your mind.
You have to really see it, in your mind.
You have to have it, in your mind.

Some other dude brought up Visualization earlier in the post. That is entirely correct. To see a simplistic view of how Law of Attraction works, look at any sport(basketball is easy). Do you think any of them sink a hoop while imagining they will miss the shot? No, hells no. In their head, they've ALREADY MADE THE SHOT. So what they're doing physically is just following the guidelines that their subconscious mind set out for them. Essentially what I'm saying is that you have to believe that you can do something & focus on it, or else it will never work(not consistently, of course).

People tend to underestimate the power of the subconscious mind.

P.S. I wholeheartedly agree that with a simple snap of your fingers the universe will get you what you want, is utter bullcrap. Yet I do support the notion that with the right mindset, anyone here can achieve far more than they think possible. Alot of you seem jaded, by life or whatever, and frown upon the thought that with your mind you can do anything. As long as you treat your mind with skepticism, you won't get any extraordinary results from yourself. Sure you might get lucky or do something you never thought you could, yet alot of the time an external source was the catalyst of it. The other part of the time, well...That's exactly what I'm telling you we can manifest.
