Master Don Juan
I've never talked about my uncle before the cloest man i've ever really had in my life was my uncle mike.
My dad is, was and always will be a hoe lol. he's a good man and he tries his best and he's not a bad father, he's just got too much hoing going on to ever do an y real parenting. i mean he covered the basic ****, work hard, don't steal ****, respect people but any thing other than that, meh.
anyway my uncle mike pretty much raised me. I lived on the "good" part of little rock which is west little rock and i went to school in this TAG / Magent school and to be able to go there I had to used my grandparents address which was in the HOOD lol. I had to catch the bus there and my mom picked me up from there when she got off work or got out of school she was in school pretty much my entire elementary / jr high she graduated when i went to 8th grade with a masters in communication
anyway like i said, uncle mike was my guy. He was my dad's 2nd oldest brother, I have another uncle named Jr that's 3 years older than mike and i have an aunt named Ronda who is 1 year older than my dad my dad is the baby. The cousin that played college basketball at Arkansas is Ronda's son. anyway, uncle mike was smart. he read a lot, that's why i read alot to this day. he was always reading something. he could cook, he liked sports, he liked cartoons lol, he liked wrestling. he liked porn lol. Uncle mike was easily the smartest of all my dad's brothers and sisters including my dad.
Uncle mike was really really book smart. When no one else could help me with my homework uncle mike could. Uncle mike made sure I did my homework before I played basketball and every day i got home from school he'd have a PB and J sammich and a coke ready for me and he'd give me 50 cents to go down to the pool hall and shoot pool (you can't beat me in pool by the way don't even try lol you're wasting your time). As you can see I love uncle mike
very much.
The thing about uncle mike, is he had sickle cell. My family is really athletic and he becuase of this he could not be. so he read and **** a lot. he couldn't really hold a real job. He always struggled financially so whenever i mowed a yard or something or had any extra money i'd buy him a beer or buy him something I knew he would like
. There are levels of sickle cell you have the sickle cell like T-boz in TLC had which is somewhat mild and doesn't restrain physical activity.. my uncle had one of the worst cases you can have. he could barley leave the house. my dad who owns a janitorial company basically hired him to clean this one building he has. which i could do myself in about 45 mins and it would take him 4-5 hours to do, and to basically be my babysitter he couldn't hold a regular job
He's always been sickly becuase of his disease, but it's gotten worse the last few years, we thought we lost him 2 years ago but he made it through. My mom called me about a month ago and told me that he's going downhill really fast and they don't think he's gonna make it. I called him and talked to him and it broke my heart, that's my guy
. we talked about **** we normally talk about, the cowboys, the manny / floyd fight coming up, what's going on back in little rock. It really sucked becuase I knew it was probably the last time I could talk to him. If my wife had our daughter any other time I would have instantly flown down to little rock and been there but i couldn't' leave her here alone being pregnant/ having a week old baby and a 7 year old.I still felt rally bad.
Anyway today around 20 mins before the kentucky derby I got a call from my mom, he passed away earlier today. 58 years old.
No man has had more of an impact on my life than my uncle mike. He taught me how to work hard and take school seriously, he taught me that it was okay to be black and be interested in **** other than sports. He taught me how to cook, he literally taught me how to read and tuaght me how to make reading a life long habit.
My son, 7 years old saw me cry today for the first time in my life and he was like daddy what's wrong and I had to explain to him that uncle mike was gone.
I love you man, I'm gonna miss you. I'll see you up there day
