"Treat me right"

Ok, so i was playing a computer game called "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" and at one point in the game you get yourself a girlfriend. I should mention right away that the main (if not all) characters in the game are black.

You then have to go on dates with her, and the game strongly suggests that you do things that please her. Example, she wants to go dancing, you must bring her to a club, or she wants to take your gun and shoot people out of your car window, you let her do it...to please her.

She keeps saying stuff like "Treat me right and you might get a little something after" or "You don't know how to treat a lady" or "Give me the respect i deserve".

When the girl's requests are not met by you, you get insults and are put down by the girl. Then you see a bar called "Progress with girlfriend" diminish dangerously, meaning that you will LOSE your girlfriend if you keep doing the opposite of what she tells you to do...

How bad is this for an example of what dating should be for the kids playing the game around the world?

Now, it may seem like the game is trying to enforce a gentleman-ish behavior, but i think they went too far there.

Is this what boys, male teenagers, and probably a fair number of adults should find acceptable ? Is this what society has become ? Women being put on pedestals and men treating them like they are f*cking princesses ?!

"Give me the respect i deserve" ? How can she claim to "deserve" this special treatment when you have just met?

I am not so surprised to see this AFC way of representing dates in a game, but i do find it alarming nonetheless. Probably the game developpers are all nerds and AFC's, i don't know...

sounds like more brainwashing done to the youth by synergist corporations looking to expand markets and breed a new generation of AFCs to spend lots of cash. this is what they mean, appearantly, when they say, "invest in our youth"

the hole woman put on pedastals begins at a faaar younger age.... it begins in cartoons , i remember theese cartoons where u see the guys do everything to get the girls attention and **** , they say treat them right and all that crap ....
then you have the regular movies and tv shows , where girls are treated more special for just being girls and such.... yeah I know the shows have become more flexable , you see somewhat of a reality in the shows nowadays , but 10 -15 years ago all the shows where treat the woman like she is a princess and you are her servant and you might get lucky enogh to be with her... it fu\cked my way of thinking till i was 15 - 16 years old , i really thought doing all the **** for her and stuff like that would eventually make her understand that im a great guy to be with , but to my suprise it didnt go that way , i ended up in the friend zone.... after soem time i learnt more and more from myself then i learnd alot from coming to this place and it totally changed my opinnions on stuff , and made me realize that girls arent something special that you put on the pedastal and worship.... they are the same as us....in most ways.....

Roger Ramjet had a different male female dynamic. Roger and Lance Crossfire (Ace test-pilot and Roger's principal rival for the affections of Miss Lotta Love) did all sorts of stuff to show what great guys they were. In the end Miss Lotta Love dumped them both for another guy and Roger and Lance were made the butt of joke for the whole epsoide.

I agree. I would not attempt ANYTHING I do in that video game, regardless of my age.

Although towards the end there's that girlfriend where if you show up at her house in the gimp suit she automatically jumps your bones. That'd be kinda cool

Personally, when a date gets to the "shooting random people" stage, being an AFC is the least of my worries.

That's what I did in my game. After I reached 100% progress, banged her a couple times, she gave me that: "I'm hungry." I wasn't, so, I threw a fire bomb on her. She got sorta pissed and said: "Take me home, CJ". What's a brotha to do? I shot her in the face with the sawed-off. She didn't care too much for that, so I offered her the big purple double-ended dildo that I got out of the shower in the police station to make up. She was laying there trying to play dead, so I beat her with it.

My gf was sitting next to me getting p!ssed for real - probably because I was talking sh!t and adding "fill dialogue":

V: "Yeah, you're hungry? Chew on THIS!" *POOF* "It's gettin' hot in hurr... so burn up all your clothes..."
Game chick: *scream, scream... Take me home CJ*
V: "How about you start walkin' instead? No? K, well..." *KaBLAM*
Game chick: *falls to the ground*
V: "Aww... you feeling a bit 'down'? I got something that will cheer you up!" *Pulls out double-ender* "PEEKABOO!"

V: "Oh, I see. Are you too tired? You got a headache? C'mon, this will cure what ails ya." *smack, smack* "Yeah, take this..." *smack, smack* "You love it, dontcha? And ohh man... when you follow the croupier chick into the "adult gift store" and she gets dressed up in the leather. Then, you get a gimp suit and go over to her house and kill her "boyfriend"/love slave and start bangin' her yourself. That was way too awesome.

I don't know man, can the mass media really have that big an influence on people (possible)? It's "only a game" anyways so I doubt people would take it all that seriously, but I do see what you are trying to get at - it is potentially an influence esp. for impressionable/inexperienced/young kids.

But remember that not every kid who watches those shows become like "that". I guess the real question is: what makes any kid more susceptible to being influenced by tv than the next kid?
