that they are DRIVING anywhere if shtf? stuff hits the fan, end of the world, etc. I can't be the only guy who realizes that a bag full of nails will stop ALL traffic on a given road. baton your knife to split some limbs or sapliings lengthwise, use a rock as a hammer, and presto, everyone has to stop, turn around (being shot at the while) or they aint going far on 4 FLat tires. a blind man can follow the trail of 4 steel wheels cutting ruts! they will WANT your gear, food, and womenfolk. just the gasoline, tire, parts of vehicle will be enough to get you shot at, a lot. have to go offroad, with mountain bicycle, have to have stuff stashed nearby, and a concealed dugout shelter has to be in the area, along with woods for concealment and a permanent water source. simply hole up for a year and let everyone die off, the diseases die down, etc. then all that is still around belongs to you, for the picking up.

steel weapons, tools won't be gone, diesel generators will run on peanut oil, chinese do that NOW. NOBody IS leaving job, home, pulling kids out of school, etc, "early", so everyone is going to be on bikes, or afoot, or dead in short order, basically.

That's why preppers prep. They are ready to go within minutes. Before you can even get that bucket of nails they are twenty miles down the road or already at their predesignated save zone. That's also why many choose to live in less populous areas of the country and/or do not plan on leaving their home.

Also, depending on what kind of disaster is occurring, such as a pandemic, most people will stick around in denial for days, weeks or months while the prepper already holed up at the first sign of trouble. Denial will be the first nail in the coffin for most.

Most preppers are relying on speed and concealment. Any weapons they have is only a plan B. Some preppers would fail to arrive safely but I think most will be successful. The average citizen is who will fall victim of road ambushes.

Interesting stuff though. A fun hobby for some. Crazy obsession for others. I do think it would be interesting to see how people would fair on their own...completely independent and self-reliant or die.....Oh you just drank water from that creek? Vomiting, fever and diarrhea kills in a couple days. I know I wouldn't last long.
