#1, whatever you think and feel together will yield results. If you're fearful of addiction, it will happen. Doesn't matter if it's WoW, or alcohol.

#2, I play WoW. I'm sure many guys do. I have friends addicted to Madden Online, Or Gears of War when it released. MMO's are taking the heat b/c more people across the world play that 1 game, and b/c it is basically an infinite, unending game. Only you can determine if you're addicted or not.

Point is, get your stuff done first. I work. I lift. I clean my place. I take care of life. WoW is a game, like Halo, or sports games, etc. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't classify it as "wasting time", b/c I'll often listen to audio programs or read on my other monitor while I play. I RARELY watch tv and generally listen to my sirius more often than not. My time is filled with up time, normally educational audio material, books on tape when driving, books in the car if I'm waiting in traffic or for a haircut. Wherever. It's about priorities.

Believe me, there's AlOT of people NOT playing WoW that do nothing more with their lives. The time sink is that people who are fairly talented play the game, and b/c of it's UNENDING and INNUMERABLE possibilities, it's social aspect, and the fact that men LOVE games where they can rank against each other, it does take away lives. HOWEVER, any guy I've seen on google, or the Tyra Banks show who was like, was already a loser imo, no offense meant to those who play it here.

If you like RPG's, but my accounts, it's the best I've played, and being able to play with friends anywhere is even more fun. However, no game or hobby should override one's priorities in life.

Hey, the main point of sosuave is to do things that will make you happy with life. I say if it is your thing do it. But sometimes we have to think about the happiness of others. For instance I will live in the 9th level of hell with satan brutus judas and the other guy just to make my little bro happy (umm for the rest of his life). Point is enjoy your life.

Hey, the main point of sosuave is to do things that will make you happy with life. I say if it is your thing do it. But sometimes we have to think about the happiness of others. For instance I will live in the 9th level of hell with satan brutus judas and the other guy just to make my little bro happy (umm for the rest of his life). Point is enjoy your life. BTW WOW is not my thing. I like games like Zelda Metal Gear ratchet and turok. for some reason my mom thinks I mainly like FPS

I play it a little, but I'm not a serious gamer, it's just not me. My reason for playing is that I can spend a little time online with my brothers and sort of "do something" even though we live far apart.

I don't think I'm a typical WoWer. ;-)

It is a seriously slick game, well written, well managed. But there are obvious overt attempts to maximize it's addictive qualities, so if you tend to get too into games beware - this one has no end to it.

I don't recommend it. Most people aren't as disciplined as A-Unit. If you think you might get addicted, you probably will. I've lost 4 friends to WoW already. Frequently, I'll call them up to hang out. Their response, "sorry man, there's a raid tonight that I can't miss. I probably won't get any loot but I don't want to get behind in my guild." I really don't understand it; I mean I played WoW when it first came out and had fun getting to level 60, but raiding is just so damn BORING. I quit after my first run through MC, I can't imagine going through the same stupid dungeon doing the same stupid thing over and over It really turns into more of a job than a game.

Here's the way I look at it.

Can you afford to do something that is not productive?

I don't play games, I RARELY watch TV, and I only go out to maintain a healthy life. The rest of the time is dedicated to education and improvement (finance, physical, knowledge, etc...).

I don't not do these things cause I think they are bad. I don't do them because I have not become what I whish to be.

I cannot afford to.

Once I reach my goals then yeah. Sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll (and WoW) will be they way I go.

If you're happy with what you are then play the day away. Just don't complain if you get bad grades, don't make enough money, can't get a girl, look fat, or can't walk a flight of stairs without passing out.

Put effort into the things that need effort first.

DO NOT GET WoW!

Look, I LOVE video games, especially fighting, strategy, movie experience (God of War/RE4 type) and MMORPG. I would rather stay chill with my friends and play games rather than go out 8 out of 10 nights (and ideally get a booty call at the end of the night or right prior).

It's a good game, not a great game. It is unfortunately polluted by those pathetic stereotypes we see of gamers, although the total demographic is quite diverse. It will turn you into a hobbit, it's simply was made to be that time consuming.

IMO, no aspiring DJ should play WoW and be careful with MMORPGs in genetal. Huge turnoff to females. I was hooked for a few months, and I had a lot of fun just because I mostly started PvP battles, talked sh*t and made fun of people. But it got boring and the effect was way too much to bear. Seriously, I would break a date just to play, make excuses not to go out, it was too much. WoW is a BIG time AFC contributor.

In general, keep the video games to moderation. Keep it to a total minimum or none if you are trying to get a girl or girls. What Teflon Mcgee said: "Put effort into the things that need effort first."

Instead of playing video games, I'm concentrating on reading 52 books in 52 weeks. That along with studying for board exams in my field, hitting the gym, working way too many hours and having some fun social time with my girlfriend and family is about all I have time for.

Seems like WoW and games like it are addictive not so much cause of the gameplay but for the same reason chat rooms and MySpace is addictive.

I hardly play games anymore, and never online games. When I do, I prefer the slow moving strategic ones like Total War series of Homeworld. Star Trek Legacy may be one online game for me worth trying but that would probably involve a new, faster PC ($$$$$), which I should get anyway as the youngest computer in my place is 7 years old.

Anyway, big reason I don't game much is because this is a lot more interesting not to mention free and you can do it yourself too if you put in the time. I'm trying it and it keeps me from complaining about why there are no good, original games anymore.

I'll 2nd MV's post, as he's got a longer track record than I...and I know Jvesti would bytch slap me for playing as (he has tried in the past), however, the SUPER hardcores are about 5, maybe 10% of the total subscriber base which is 8,000,000 people+. The extreme cases, LIKE the news on TV, are all you hear about.

It can very easily drain your life away, as in my opinion, so can anything else you do.

Wasn't "The Game" all about Neil Straus widdling everything down into a practical video game, or virtual game, where every person was tagged as an object and placed a level where guys could interact nearly the same everytime, like robots?

The appeal of WoW and why guys get addicted, is very much like why guys get addicted in PUA or sarging games...they boil it down to objective, repeatable learnable systems, that are eventually emotionless, whereby they can automate their procedures and thereby their results. Guys who found the early PUA stuff weren't the super studly, as Strauss pointed out about himself, or about Tyler Durden. That said, what's to differentiate the game they were playing and video games? Nothing. It really comes down to the habit and why you're doing.

The addiction of the stock market and gambling is much the same, as well as the rush. In the case of THE GAME, the rush is getting more women and laying more girls, making tougher pickups. In WOW, it's being the best, having the best gear, winning the best dungeons. I believe it comes down to the FEELINGS we have about what we do and our MOTIVATIONS for it.

What about a scrawny guy who bulks up, uses steroids and loses everything? How many EXTREME true life stories are there of that on TV? I can remember a handful right now, not to mention one's seen years ago.

So what is it about WoW or other experiences?

I believe it brings out the EXTREME positive/negative side, which, if applied to the RIGHT area in life, Men would reach unbounded potential. However, when applied to the WRONG area in life, men face a huge fall. I believe with WOW, you're addressing the symptons, not the disease, not the source of what IS TRULY going, which is evident in other areas.

Yes, guys do occasionally turn introverted, drop their friends, and do whatever else it takes to play...is it Wow's fault, or has this problem always been brewing, and now this just was the catalyst for it? It's kind of the same mentality people have surrounding teenagers and all the dumb things they do, such as underage drinking. They say "See, if X didn't exist, it never would have happened," as if we can wipe society SO clean, NOTHING bad would ever happen. Hardly, it's there, unconsciously waiting to creep out with the right trigger, the question is, IS THIS PERSON strong enough to overcome the setback they will face??

I'm not saying TO get it, or NOT to get it...I'm saying examine your behavior. Many guys are looking for an escape, MUCH like SECOND life is becoming, which is even whacker IMO (since I've seen it once, and people have virtual sex, etc, and the title just freaks me out), and so if you're that TYPE of person, who's crap isn't somewhat together, this only exacerbates that. Any game will, WoW just has that capability to an infinite level I believe.

You can generalize and say video games are a waste of time, and yes, there's not much of an element of productivity to it, but there's a DOWN side to this angle as well. Much like it was stated in the Game so eloquently by Neil Strauss, this over productivity mindset, diminishes people only into WHAT they're doing, not who they are. The common American Phrase is:

"What do you do?"

Me: Well lot's of things...I do sex, I do drink, I do lift, I do be a bf, I do be a son, and a brother, I do flag football, and eat, and sleep, and read, and make money. I do be a human being. What do you do?

Of course the DESIRED or EXPECTED response is YOUR OCCUPATION, which is more of an identity than ANYTHING I know, and doesn't account for WHERE A PERSON is going, but rather WHERE they are at, and where THEY have been.

We're missing the forest for the trees.
