Look I agree with you guys on most issues here.. If the kid doesn't know what he wants to do, spending 50,000 on a degree is nuts. In most cases if your going to stay in your own country (U.S. or Canada) then having a degree isn't a huge gain. Both my father & mother have no education at all and my mom makes 100k/year, my dad built a business in radio and TV from the ground up.
They both came from ghettos.

Chris heres a good idea, finish up your college then do this program:

www.globaltesol.com <-- there are other places to get your certification but this one is the one I did and I really enjoyed the program(1 week + job placement). It costs about $1000 bucks but then your good to be hired just about anywhere in the world minus Korea (6 months jail time for working without a visa). Usually each contract is from about 6 months to 1 year and the school that hires you will pay for your apartment, salary and medical. Your salary is usually above the local middle class wage. Some people work privately and make $40 to 50/hour... I even know a guy in Brazil who charges 100 bucks for an hour class and he always has a full schedule.


Anyway, easy job, go somewhere abroad, teach, meet girls, fuhck your students and have fun. You can go back home in a year with a clear head and money in your pocket. (no pun intended)

Its easy to get a job in the industry and anyone with a high school education can apply. I've worked in 5 different countries in the last 3 and a half years and most of the time I just partied with other teachers. I have no degree, and only a 1 year college diploma.

Anyhow when you return home you'll have a better idea as to what you want to do.

Oh btw I forgot to add, you don't need to speak the local language to go. All classes are done in English.

However, I already made my decision.

I wanna finish up the semester at the CC.

After that I wanna go back to Iowa and go to University there.

I wanna major in Sales & Marketing with a minor in Real Estate and I also wanna take some classes on investing.

You need to go to a top 25 school for it to be worth it OR be at the absolute top of your class in your state school. Anything less, it's a total waste.

I agree, especially in regard to law and mba programs.

CC can be a good idea if you can make straight A's, which is not hard, and either transfer to a decent four-year program, or continue on in state school hopefully making nearly straight A's, then score well on an admissions test and get into a top grad school.

Part of the problem here is that these guys are thinking of undergrad college only. You can get 101 nearly worthless degrees, but with top grades and top test scores, that worthless degree can get you into a grad program that can get you a high-paying job.

Grad school is an even bigger waste of money for most people. I'm about to be a graduate of one of the nations top 10 engineering grad schools and I'm not leaving with anything more than I came in with, maybe just another piece of paper. I was a CC student, although I cannot say what it is like in an mba or law program since I was taking classes that were more objective at lower levels than BA stuff.

I'll be honest though if I had the choice between university of northern iowa and CC in santa barbara i would definetly not be going back to a corn field. My second point, I'm not even 30 yet but if I was paying to be taught golf I would not bother with anyone younger than me. I'd rather pay for more tee time and learn on my own. Thats a personal thing but I wouldn't be suprised if a lot of guys had the same attitude. Maybe a piece of paper and a couple of years could fair better for you than jumping head first into the golf thing.

The thing is I'd rather live in a "corn field" than waste two years of my life studying something I will never use. The uni offers exactly what I wanna do and I've been there already so I know what I'm getting myself into. I can still go back to Cali after I graduate.
