Law 27: Play on People's Need to Believe to Create a Cultlike Following

People have an overwhelming desire to believe in something. Become the focal point of such desire by offering them a cause, a new faith to follow. Keep your words vague but full of promise; emphasize enthusiasm over rationality and clear thinking. Give your new disciples rituals to perform, ask them to make sacrifices on your behalf. In the absence of organized religion and grand causes, your new belief system will bring you untold power.

The very best premises upon which to base a new "faith" are ones where a negative cannot be proven. Thus, if you practice the prescribed ritual and are successful, you prove the positive, and if you practice the ritual and are unsuccessful the fault lies in your imperfectly practicing the ritual - still proving the postive. In fact the doubters only strengthen the 'faith'.

A metaphysical argument can never be proven in the physical while a physical argument can never be proven by the metaphysical. The trick is to make the metaphysical seem plausible enough to be physical.

Law 32: Play to People's Fantasies
The truth is often avoided because it is ugly and unpleasant. Never appeal to truth and reality unless you are prepared for the anger that comes from disenchantment. Life is so harsh and distressing that people who can manufacture romance or conjure up fantasy are like oases in the desert: Everyone flocks to them. There is great power in tapping into the fantasies of the masses.

My Personal opinion is that there is no secret. Its a marketing ploy to get people to follow some kind of agenda, believe in it and not question it. They have borrowed ideas from history, the bible and psychology and put into a nice little package that sells. The genius of it is that by questioning it much like questioning the existence of god, you automatically sabatoge yourself. It spits in the face of logic and thus you will wonder around half blindly believing it works and ignoring reality because you will be too busy chasing a fantasy and if you can create your own world and feel safe in it by following this fantasy, then I suppose that you think you made it.

10 years ago 39 people belonging to a cult called Heaven's Gate killed themselves by swallowing poision and dying for a cause because they believed in their cult leader who told them their purpose in life was to die so their spirit will be picked up by an Alien ship disquised as a comet. Those were not stupid people but rather educated people. I think its easy to pursue weak minded people by giving them a new reality and asking them to follow it. The solution is this: ALWAYS BE A LEADER AND DON'T BE A FOLLOWER, at least you will know you won't be a sheep headed for the slaughter.

I didn't even know there WAS a book until recently. I saw the video...downloaded it for free.

It isn't a magic spell that's going to give you what you want all the time without you having to do any work. That's the most common misconception which arises, and it arises because people are constantly looking for some lazy way to get everything they want without investing anything of themselves. If you actually READ the book or WATCH the video, you'll see that that's not what it's about.

As for marketing, OF COURSE they're out to "make a buck". But you don't make much money in this world without providing something of value back. Is Bill Gates "wrong" for inventing Windows just because he's out to make a couple million off of it? Does that make it BAD software?

I win at roulette.

In fact, you can win roulette too. Just walk up to any roulette table, in any country, and place chips on 21 red. But here's the secret: you have to vocalize "Vulpine". You don't have to yell it or anything, muttering works.

If it doesn't work the first time, kiddies, be patient. It may take you 15-20 times before you say "Vulpine" like you mean it and actually hit.

Did I mention... you have to make a grid of all the numbers that come to mind, on the summer solstice, 21 being in the middle; set it on fire beneath a full moon's beam, and carry the ashes in your wallet into the casino? Ooop, and did I mention that you have to make the grid on the paper from the cigarette butt of a virgin? Yeah, that's pretty crucial. You might have blown the whole works if you wrote the grid on the wrong parchment.

Well

Whilst I think they overstate the power of positive thinking I do believe that it is important.

They make some very valid points. The main one is that no one has ever achieved something when they thought they were going to fail.

Secondly it is good mental health to embrace the secret. Have gratitude for what you have, be optimistic about what you want to achieve. If you think this way you will be happier.

But so far I have not attracted to my life a huge harem in some tropical paradise populated by massive breasted nyphomaniacs and I have been holding onto thoughts about that since I was 12 years old!

I think of an old saying.

"Have faith in God
But lock the door."
