Marriage might've been the ultimate flex back in the days...
In all centuries prior to The 20th, they were arranged by outside parties, to benefit themselves. Today, marriage is pretty much a status symbol... it's thriving among the rich and the upper middle class, and in decline among everyone else

Great point.

It's almost on pair with poor( er) people who "love " to buy luxury clothing brands; it was never meant for them to begin with, yet they view it as the ultimate flex.

And even arranged marriage nowadays is fecked up, because yes; middle Eastern women also have access to the world wide Web.

Basically marriage is a big fat L from all directions.

Marriage among the middle class has long been in decline, though the decline is not as steep as among the "poor".
