Tall poppy syndrome is a pejorative term used to describe what is seen as a levelling social attitude. Someone is said to be suffering from tall poppy syndrome when their assumption of a higher economic, social or political position attracts criticism, being perceived as presumptuous, attention seeking or without merit.

Has anyone got good advice for combatting this? It seems to often be a natural part of the DJ process.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

I've got it chronically. I think the only thing you can do is write those people off and throw them in the trash can. If you want to be on good terms with them, get in a position to show them your true colors, but if someone says that without knowing me I lose interest in knowing them.
