sometimes when i'm on the stairmaster for 30mins i sweat massively. sometimes when i am on the stairmaster for an hour i get more of a cold sweat and i am not all that wet.

the question i have is i burn 865 calories an hour with less sweat. and i burn 430 calories in a half hour and i'm soaked. which workout is more beneficial?

i always thought sweating helped lose weight.

sweating has little if anything to do with losing bodyfat. since both are of roughly the same intensity, the longer session is much, much better at burning fat -- it takes you a while to get into a fat-burning mode, sometimes as long as 20 minutes.

Are you overweight? You should supplement your cardio with weights, I think you should eat after you workout because it builds muscle, which burns fat in turn. Sweating is also very healthy for you. I think because you know your going half an hour, your intensity is higher and when you go one hour, your intensity is lower, I would say the intense half hour is better. INTENSITY

if the calorie readout is correct, he burns exactly half the calories in a half hour... now granted, if that half hour were more intense, it would be advantageous...

I would turn it around even further. Even if you're trying to lose bodyfat, cardio should be used to supplement diet & lifting, not the other way around.
