Just read that exact article. I dont buy all of the evolutionaty biotheory stuff, but there is some validity in there. I think alot of claims in that area of research are over-extrapolated. 'Evolutionary theory' is full of assumptions, and most hard-core proponents have a lot of views based on those assumptions.

As far as the article goes, I'd just like to repeat something I've said once before. Because I believe it applies here as well:

To an older man, younger women ARE Viagra.

And COLOSSUS:

Is it just me, or have you noticed that many in the "scientific community" have even conveniently stopped calling it the "THEORY" of evolution, altogether...

Ah, my favorite subject! Maybe this is my secret to staying young?

I can see how having a younger woman can have a positive impact on a man's life.

Younger women keep you young in much the same way that kids do. For me, introducing a younger woman to things that I have experienced allows me to experience them again for the first time. I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing their faces light up when they try some kind of exotic food or travel to a new place.

Personally, I just can't see myself with a woman that is my age. I tried it last year and it was all of the same BS without the super perky t!tties and firm ass.

What's the point? So you can have a "mature" conversation? I have guy friends and this message board with quite a few smart people for that.

So what do I benefit from an older woman? Sure, a woman needs to be able to measure up to you maturity wise, but even a lot of women I know in their early 20's meet the minimum criteria. Contrary to popular belief, they DON'T grow up much after their mid 20's!

Exactly. I have had several professors who teach it as scientific reality. They accept the SUGGESTIVE evidence for the evolution of life, and develop a cognitive block towards any conflicting viewpoints.

But it is just that...a THEORY. A theory is a concept of what may have occured that is accepted by the scientific community. There IS evidence that supports evolutionary theory, but the majority of what you hear is an extrapolation of that evidence. It cannot be conclusively proven any more so than creation, but that is an issue of faith and an entirely different discussion.

Going back to the article, all they really showed was that men across various industrialized and indigenous cultures prefer youger women. Wow. Earth shattering. All that bs about this dynamic 'prolonging the lifespan of humanity' is pure speculation. The media turns this into "pop science".

Genetically and biologically speaking, there are only a [relatively] few genes of difference between us and many other animals, but that does not mean we ARE animals, in the existential sense. Emotion, reason, faith, ingenuity...all those intangible but absolutely unique attributes are what make us HUMAN. The 'evolutionary theory' train can only go so far. Man is not going to behave and evolve like an animal because he is not an animal. I think a lot of people make an intellectual wrong turn here.

Just my 2 cents.

Evolution is a theory like gravity is a theory. Actually, gravity is a less believeable thory than evolution because no one has ever seen a graviton before. But we have seen evolution, and Darwin was just explaining the facts we already had in front of us.

science does violence to common sense

This is what laymen don't understand: there is no absolute truth is science.

Let me say that again:

THERE IS NO ABSOLUTE TRUTH IN SCIENCE.

Nothing, not one thing, in science is 100%. Everthing tops out at 99.9%.

Why? Because scientists understand that there is always the possiblity we are wrong and that new evidence can surface. This is what makes science powerful: the ability to change in the face of new evidence.

Science is not dogma: anyone who says they are a scientist and speaks otherwise is a liar.

The universe is queerer (stranger) than we can suppose: http://youtube.com/watch?v=1APOxsp1VFw

I knew that remark was coming. I have my own views on the origins of life, but Im not going to place a label on it so the whole forum can flame away because it isnt congruent with their own views.

This is an extremely divisive topic, with the lay public and scientists alike. I will DISCUSS the topic with an objective, reasonable individual, but I wont hijack the thread to defend my own views against someone who already has their mind made up.

A man who is more desirable will be able to attract a more desirable mate; desirability, of course, correlates strongly to a youth in a woman.

So what makes a man more desirable? Physical attractiveness is one attribute, and is correlated strongly to good genes and health. The man who looks older is less attractive, and also has a lower expected life span. E.G., a fat man is much more likely to get diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc., earlier than the fit man. Intelligence is another attribute - both in its own right, and as a correlate to power and wealth. And intelligence is correlated to longer life span. And a man who pursues younger women will generally be the type that thinks that he should keep himself in good shape to be in the ballgame with them - both in dating, and as a husband.

Now of course, the other reasons could have an effect as well, but I think it is quite likely that the longer lived folks would be living just about as long irregardless of whether they were married to an older or younger woman, or not even married (some folks would say that the bachelor, not having the nagging wife around would probably live the longest. :))

As a professional hard science researcher who finds evolution to be the simplest theory, I have to say that more than 90% of what I see in evolutionary PSYCHOLOGY is utter bunk.

Frankly, the bulk of the pure psychology research community consists of people who found college-level math too hard.

From this article:

Women often lose their reproductive capacity around age 50, but if men can still reproduce into their 70s, Darwin would say it's advantageous for males to live longer lives providing they can hook up with a woman capable of reproducing.
So the men who had the hereditary tendency to become sterile at 50 died out in the stone age? While their fellows kept reproducing until 70?

People lived until 70 in the stone age?

They're saying people lived until 70 in the stone age???

Jesus Christ. I shudder to think what would happen if I, a real scientist, were caught out in public saying something that retarded.

I can point out theory after theory like this. Check out #1 on this famous list:
http://psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-20070622-000002.xml

Should I point out why that's equally stupid? It goes on and on.

So looking young and dating women who look the age you look typically makes for a positive feedback mechanism? Makes sense.

If Viagra is the medical approach; think of young, nubile (preferably flexible) women as the holistic approach. I'm all about the homeopathy you know,..:D
