I started this week doing the Plank for my abs and man let me tell ya this exercise is sick....If your not familar with it you get down on the floor like your going to do a Push Up but instead you get on your elbows with your legs stretched out like doing a Push Up you hold yourself in that position for as long as you can..It's said those who do Squats and Deadlifts can handle this exercise with ease starting out as it counts by how many seconds to minutes you hold the position. Being in Powerlifting I had little trouble but honestly my first try I got to a shaking 1 minute and collaped like a big pus*y:D ..

After I rested I got back up and managed to get to 2 minutes with no shaking..These attempts were my first tries and now I am up to 4 minutes and you can really feel it working and I recommend anyone who wants to blast this area this is the baby to try..

Now since I am getting use to them this way once I get to 5 minutes on each set or try I am going to go straight into a Side Plank and do them also..

The Plank targets also the back and hips and I find it really convient..

Anybody else have the same success or tried the Plank for your Abs?

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

It is kind of amazing. I wasn't aware of this exercise until about a year ago. It is a great one. I need to do it more.

If you can do the plank for that long you are doing good. Not sure I could even last a minute, although I've only done it a few times, so I guess I could train to build up.

I like them too.

What I used to do was this:

Go get a 10lb/25lb/45lb plate, lie on your stomach, maneuver it onto the center of your back, then hoist yourself up by your elbows so only your toes and forearms are touching the ground.

It's good as a bodyweight exercise, but even better when you add progressive resistance to it.

--

Another thing that I found helped, was a lateral plank. That's where you're resting your upper body on one hand or forearm(I found forearm made my shoulders uncomfortable), with only one foot touching the ground. Keep your body straight, and you can even hold a dumbbell in your other hand for added resistance..

All in all I think they're a great light ab workout, good for warmups too.

I'll have to try that Quiksilver...

I know I failed to mention also I do weighted crushes and it seems to help me get more crushes in before burning out..

But really once I get use to them which seems pretty quick I will try the weighted Planks you do..now thats sounds like a challenge I'd like to try..

I know before even trying them I read that anyone who does Squats or Deadlifts regularly are able to do them with more ease so this might be the reason I can go this long on each try...cause Squats and Deadlifts help strengthen the core muscles good and doing weighted crushes too brings it all together.

I've done that as well. I also did something where I'd start in a plank but then raise myself into a push-up position and back down onto my elbows (one arm at a time) over and over. Do a bunch starting with the same arm in a row then switch to the other arm.
