Alrite, I tried searching, but the engine doesn't wanna search for soy cause it's under 4 letters . So, what's better? I heard soy's bad for prostate. Is that true? And I heard some other crap about it, but forget now.

What do you use? What tastes better?

Soy has a lot of estrogen in it. Estrogen is basically a female hormone, in the same way testosterone is basically a male hormone.

A diet high in soy can play havoc on a mans body because it is flushing the body with a type and quantity of hormones that the male body is not capable of dealing with.

An article I read a few weeks ago was saying that babies who are being fed soy formula instead of breast milk are taking in the equivalent of 4 birth control pills A DAY!

Soy is a good thing to steer clear of, or enjoy only in moderation if you're a guy.

It's also a lesser quality protein than whey, which is the answer I think you were looking for. Due to its lesser percentage of protein and its estrogen content, soy proteins are usually effective for women.

Once again this is completely and utter b.s.

What the hell does this mean? Has estrogen in it-no dum azz.

Anyone who’s been following bodybuilding and health magazines over the years is aware of the negative stigma attached to soy. Bodybuilders have been taught one thing over and over again: soy is an inferior protein for muscle building. As new evidence comes in, many of the assumptions regarding soy have now changed.

Soy originally fell out favor with many health conscious persons due to the phytoestrogens found in raw soy products. Phytoestrogens are compounds that have weak estrogenic activity. This led to claims that soy will raise estrogen levels in humans, not good if one is looking to gain lean muscle mass. Estrogen has always been one of the most dreaded compounds for bodybuilders. Although estrogen has some anabolic properties, high levels of estrogen can cause water retention, gynecomastia and increased body fat. The fear of estrogenic side effects is what drove many of the misconceptions about soy.

Much of the anti-soy crusade was originated by supplement makers, eager to tout whey as the superior protein choice for the health conscious crowd. While soy was said to be acceptable for physically inactive, bodybuilders were told they needed something better. In the gyms, whey became the preferred way of getting the extra protein that athletes needed to fuel their workouts.

Now here’s the part that most of the soy critics fail to mention. While soy is indeed rich in estrogenic compounds, it does not appear to raise estrogen levels. A recent study that used male monkeys found that soy proteins had no effect on estrogen levels. This lead researchers to conclude that the effects of phytoestrogens in soy are “tissue specific”, they do not exert systemic estrogenic effects.

Since soy has been bashed for such a long time, it may take a while for the bodybuilding community to view soy in a positive light again. While whey will still undoubtedly remain king, the addition of soy will be of use to anyone seeking soy’s many benefits, notably lowering of the cholesterol and improving heart disease risk.

Ok so you've managed to plagiarise an article from a nutritional suppliment supplier that specialises in selling supplements to those who have diet restrictions which may prevent them from using conventional protein sources for various reasons.

http://www.kosherprotein.com/soy_useful.asp

I don't suppose it ever occurred to an genius such as yourself that maybe, just possibly, a company such as 'Kosher Protein' had an ulterior motive for promoting the benefits of soy products? As such, anyone with intelligence levels even remotely approaching yours could deduce that, while all sources listed may seem credible, the overall article has an agenda which it needs to promote in order to sell more products.

I'm not saying they're lying about anything, but one can obviously see that a company in this position is definitely going to be selective about information they include - and more importantly information they don't include - when quoting the health properties of their products.

I find that most guys who are vegetarians and eat alot of soy products are always a bit effeminate.

Are they this way because of the soy intake, or is it because they are "girly-men" that they choose to be vegetarians?

A question to ponder.......

I'm a whey protein guy, all the way.

I won't touch soy, because of the above observation... just incase it really DOES affect estrogen levels.

Soy doesn't have estrogen to my recollection... where the heck did you get that?

What it has are certain nutrients or something that encourage estrogen production or something.

Both men and women have both estrogen and testosterone. Men just have more tesosterone than women, women have more estrogen than us.

Sorry but that's not good reasoning. That's like saying 'I won't eat fat just in case it makes me fat'.

If there is good evidence for it in scientific studies, then sure, but don't base it on the fact that you think vegetarians are effeminate. For all you know, it's the gentler people who become vegetarians because they don't like to hurt animals.

That is just a "beat around the bush" way of saying wussy.

I've read enough stuff on soy to base my opininons on fact. Some say nay to the increase in estrogen production, but many say that it happens... I'm no scientist, so I have to take what i read and from my own opinions on it.

I also tried eating soy for a while (it does have alot of healthy benefits) but decided to stop, because my aggressiveness lost it's edge, and I'm not sure that had anything to do with it, but why take a chance?

Whatever, I'm not about to start arguing over something that means absolutley nothing to me.

Enjoy your veggie burger, Soy-boy

there has been studies that soy increases estrogen levels in the body.

In fact, there are new studies of women who drink soy. Whats that time...after when they stop having periods...at that time there is a rapid drop in estrogen levels and much calcium loss in the bones. Anyway there have been studies of women who drank more soy during that period compared to women who didnt had like a 37% chance of not getting bone fractures or weakened bones as much. Studies all over the web, read about it.

If you want lower grade protein that increases the chance of being effeminite and produces very little gains... then by all means, go for it.

I'll stick to my trusted whey protein thank you.

Good luck with soy.
