Master Don Juan
The birth rate is 6% more boys than girls. So let's say we have 1060 men and 1000 women. Assume 40% of women are in a relationship, that leaves 660 men and 600 women and now we have 10% more men. Let's say they go on an online dating site.
It's feasible to say that these 60 extra men will try to contact women until they succeed. If 20% of them send out messages to the ugly girls, 60% send messages to the medium girls and 100% message the hottest ones, we get the following distribution: by default, every ugly girl gets 12 messages. Every medium girl gets 36 messages. Every hot girl gets 60 messages. These are just from the extra men - if we take every man into account, you increase the amounts 10-fold.
But what if we up the scale so it gets closer to real life? if there were 6600 men and 6000 women on that site, we increase the amount 10 times again. That means the ugly girls went from getting 12 messages to 120 to 1200, not in total but every one of the girls. Even if this is not completely accurate, it gives a good idea of just how much attention women get for free from men today. It is a well-studied fact that gender dynamics depend highly on gender ratio, and today we live in the highest amount of male surplus there has ever been in our world's history (by the way, there has always been a female surplus before this age). When there are more men than women, the dynamic changes to favour women (besides the other things that do) because there are fewer of them - up until now, that factor was equal or in the favour of men, but no more.
In my country it's actually worse than the "standard" ratio I've used here, from ages 15-34 combined there's 15% more men before you remove X% of women and the corresponding number of men from the pool as being in a relationship which as I showed above further skews the ratio for those who are still single.
This by the way goes for real life too, it just gets translated into approaches instead. Just because of mathematics and natural gender roles of men taking the initiative, even relatively undesirable girls are swimming in c0ck offers which I'm sure anyone who has had a girlfriend or something approximate to one is well familiar with (LOL, this guy tried to hit me up today/I got approached by this guy on my way home/OMG, there was this guy who did this thing at work/etc.).
This is why it's a numbers game and you should never take a rejection personally. Her rejection of you is basically a non-sexual extension of how a woman loses the ability to bond with new men the higher her mileage is - she gets so much attention that it becomes impersonal for her.
