On sosuave, we can see a number of different perspectives on socialization, especially in reagrds to male-female relationships. Before we all go crazy and declare the human experience nothing more than surviving and reproducing, I thought to look at other perspectives (with emphasis on sosuave-relevant subjects):
Socialcultural Perspective: Individuals are affected by group level factors. Focus is on social norms (which can quickly change) and culture.
SOSUAVE EXAMPLE: "Being Asian makes it hard to pickup chix." threads
Evolutionary Perspective: Assumes that human social behaviors are rooted in physical and psychological predispositions that helped our ancestors survive and reproduce.
SOSUAVE EXAMPLE: "Girl's are driven by unconcious motivation to score" threads.
Social Learning Perspective: Behavior is driven by past experiences with rewards or punishments. Focus on individual experiences within groups rather than larger social aggregates.
SOSUAVE EXAMPLE: "Don't let her get away with that s$%^& man!" threads or "give her positive rewards for good behavior" threads.
Phenomonological Perspective: Social behavior is driven by subjective interpretations of events in the social world. The interpretations are related to one's goals. People do not discover reality, they invent it.
SOSUAVE EXAMPLE: Bet you can all think of many to go here.
