"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

hey warboss, some quick questions:

Lat Bar Pulldown - will I perform the wide grip overhand version or the underhand close grip?

The alternative to Incline Barbell Press is DECLINE Barbell Press - unfortunately my bench doesnt decline - any other suggestions?

One more thing, 3 sets for direct shoulder work? That ok you reckon then?

Cheers man.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

alex why do you advice lat pulldowns instead of chin ups?

closegrip underhand involves the same muscles as the overhand wide grip and additionally it involves the biceps more - thats why you can pull more. so what sounds to get you bigger arms?

can i hear some stories with alcohol involved now......else i will cry in your thread like a baby.......i told you!!!!!!!

haha double, lol.

I have been doing chin ups for the past year so a change would be nice, im gonna drop em for a while and anyway, i couldnt progress on them.

Stories? Hmm.

Well one night I got horribly drunk, start walking around this Irish bar (Brogans - in the Irish Centre, Playa del Ingles - try it!) and start talking to EVERY fella (yes fella!) i saw saying, 'hey you! where are you from?!' they were mostly irish so theyd be saying things like 'cork!' or 'donegal!' to which id reply 'ah fuk off will ya' and kinda look down on them! seems weird but was god damn funny at the time! was all in good nature tho!

A few minutes later the bar closed and we all went out to the street outside, i made a new friend (keith from dublin) so he hung around with us drunken morons for a while. There was lots of ppl sitting on the ground outside, i start jumping up and down really hard on a plate and it start flying all over the place, everyone start looking at me but i found another and started kicking that around the place too, i wasnt the most popular guy in the place! then we start to climb and hang out of trees.

then a girl was walking past me down the street and i shouted at her something like 'hey you, come here!', she gave me the finger so i proceeded to shout 'fuk off you wh0re' at her etc...

We went to the greenfields centre to get chips. and when we were sitting down i got up and found a half empty pizza box and just threw it down on my mates head so he then hit my can of DIET coke off the table, i start to throw chips at him for the remainder of the night and we were a mess heading home. in the taxi i took off my top (apparently), wrapped it around my hand and start hitting my mates head off the window. lol

We finally got hom and i went out to the balcony and tried sitting down but every time i slipped off the chair and fell to the ground and just lay there laughing, weird. got lots of images of that night but havent developed the pics yet.

Crap stories really, lots more to tell so stay posted if you're really that bored... :)

oh yea, and another time my mate (the REALLY/PAINFULLY quiet one) got pissed on 5 shots of vodka.

I nearly got kicked out of a bar for starting on him coz he just would not leave a certain girl alone. a bouncer came up to me and grabbed me by the arm, i told him it wasnt me. my mate still persisted to approach the girl - i swear i nearly decked him - everyone was looking at me while i blew my top!

"She Laughed All Night. Then She Ghosted You. Here's Why."

Dinner ran three hours. She laughed at everything. You walked her to her car thinking this one's locked in.

Then: nothing. Two texts. No reply. What happened?

You did what most men do on a great date. You filled every silence, answered every question, and left her with nothing to wonder about. No mystery. Nothing to sit with when she got home.

Rule 3 of the "22 Rules" changes the ending: tell her a little, hold back the rest, and let her imagination do the chasing. The ghosting stops too.

er ok, thanks double! :)

you shouldnt be drinking during the week! what about all that muscle you workrd so hard to earn! :)

oh yeah and another time we all emptied out of this bar and all these sleazy guys selling women for dances/sex came up to us. usually we would avoid em and say 'no thanks' but this time it was different.

they showed us a card of a girl that you could pay for but she wasnt real! any of you guys look at Page 3 in the sun newspaper? it was a pic of jackie degg (sex sexy hoe! look her up on google) so i say 'hey you're a liar! shes a page 3 model! she got voted sexiest page 3 girl of all time!' and he was like 'no, no shes real!' so i said **** off and kept arguing with the bastard and my friend ended up getting the card with the girl on it - good wanking material! :)

then we tried to get a taxi to the irish centre but the taxi drivers wouldnt give us a lift - 3 intimidating drunk irish fellas! so we start walking to the centre stopping for a piss all lined up beside each other on the middle of the street! lol.

ok start my new tricep/chest/shoulder day today and im hurting - but my lifts werent that impressive, altho i did find my 8 rep max quick enough. e.g. for DB Shoulder Press i only had 9kg in each hand! :(

also, my chest doesnt even feel the slightest bit sore. My grip on incline bb press was wide enough too...

oh yeah and one more thing - when CG Bench Pressing my wrists got a horrible hammering - more so than my tris. any comments on that?

thanks.

You'll get back quickly enough. :)

Try switching to dbs or something for the incline doing a couple of weeks with incline and then barbell.

The wrist thing might have something to do with you bending back your hands and letting the bar rest in the middle of the hand instead of the lower part of the hand. If you do this then it would explain the wrist hammering.

No problem. I hope the wrist gets better. You have any idea why my triceps hurt when I deadlift? :p

Double:

Why lat pulldown + deadlift instead of wide grip chins + deadlift: first I think it'd be too much of a strain to do both efficiently in one workout (and the deadlift gives you more overall benefit), second it's hard to gauge progress with bodyweight exercises because your bodyweight changes constantly for some reason or another. They're an excellent strength exercise but hard to measure progress with. Lat pulldown with a heavy enough weight will widen your back, fear not.

It all depends on the kind of weight you're pushing and how much weight you'd have strapped to your belt do your chin-ups with.. I prefer rack chins to ordinary chin-ups, they fry the lats more and you're not really hefting much of your own weight there so it's easier to progress. Chin ups aren't nearly the beginning when it comes to back width.

Silverwex:

Your chest doesn't feel sore? That's not necessarily a sign that you didn't work it out enough, once you've set your baseline weights and are able to crush these every workout then soreness is a mere triviality. Don't worry, when the weights go up you'll get sore! Don't sweat it, add some weight next time and continue.

As for your wrists, it means you're not positioned under the bar properly so as to be able to hold it with no wrist involvement, somehow you're putting pressure on your wrists here. Are you doing these with a free barbell or a smith? Are your elbows strictly tucked in? I dunno how holding the bar improperly as Lifeforce suggests can be an issue, I've always ever held the bar one way.. maybe I misunderstood.

2-3 sets or one rest-pause set is fine for shoulders, they're not different to any other minor muscle group (like biceps and triceps).

Lat pulldown is wide overhand grip, your arms are just hooks, pull with the lats.

Chest alternatives: you have flat db press, incline db press, decline db press, flat barbell press (if you HAVE to), incline barbell press and decline barbell press.. basically you want any two of these exercises at any one time, so it's unlikely that you'll have stagnated on all six at a time.

Can you make your flat bench decline by propping up one end on a box or block or something?

If you've started with barbell, stick with barbell. Sorry to Lifeforce but I don't agree with changing exercises just because they don't make you sore. If you can progress with them then the absolute worst thing you can do is change them for something else. When and only when you get stuck on one exercise, and I mean you can't progress any further in weight, do you change - soreness is neither here nor there.

Phew. All in one breath, that.

Lifeforce, your triceps hurt because you're holding the bar behind your back and trying to do a standing reverse barbell kickback .. tsk, tsk.

oh yeah... another story from holidays. well its not funny, just really pissed me off.

me and my two mates were sitting in our apartment one day and we start talking about weight training. i got into how diet was so important and that ive hit a plateau and they start ganging up on me saying:

'Thats all bullsh!t! Diet means f all in weight training, so too plateau-ing! you mustnt be pushing the weights hard enough! its all in your mind! forget about the protein!'

i was pissed off by this so i just shut my mouth instead of exploding...!

"Why Women Dump the Guys Who Try the Hardest"

And she left anyway — probably for a guy who makes her pick up the pizza.

Painful. Also predictable. Her mind quietly concludes that anything requiring zero effort from her is worth exactly zero. You became a free sample, and free samples get taken for granted.

The 22 Rules flip the dynamic. Small shifts that get her investing effort, money, and time in you — until SHE'S the one afraid of losing YOU.
