Should you bother if she's interested in others?

There's many times I've seen or known a girl I'm interested in, and who I know has some interest in me, but whenever I see her laughing it up with another guy it just kills my initiative. I just say, "Ah, screw it, she likes him," and leave them alone.

After all, if the other guy has her interest, then you're just going to be old news, right?

Well, I'm not. I'm just wondering if it would be easier to just go after some other girl who hasn't been worked on by some other guy instead of trying to overcome it. If I see a girl who's talking to some guy, and a girl who's by herself, nine times out of ten I'll just write off the other girl and go talk to the one who's alone.
