Should this board be updated?

This is a great site that has changed so many of us. However, I wonder if the policy to prevent certain words from appearing really is working. Or is it justified since we all know how to get around them?

For example, I can't write **** but "fück" works like a charm. So the point is what is the purpose of "blipping" the first instance when I can easily circumvent it.

Just my thought after seeing so many users unable to write the words properly.

First of all, there is no word that is "filthy" in its own right. Every word has functional relevance. Certain words convey particular meaning that can't be accurately reflected alternatively.

As for the usage, I firmly believe that given the freedom to express oneself an individual will be far more careful/discrete in the usage of the language than when he/she is prevented.

Extending further, in the US sexuality is commercially capitalized but socially frowned upon in the name of decency. Is the latter working when we have so-called lawmakers openly using the same "filthy" words when aggravated e.g., **** Cheney ....?

The point is to be realistic and let the individual decide his/her expression. I am certain we tend to be much more responsible when responsibilty lies in our hands.

I know because you immedietely flipped out when I said if someone goes around the vB code they would get banned. What you did was fine, whereas if you did something like this (quote me to see what I did) with a curse word, you would be banned.

The censor is here for a reason that only Allen knows. This topic has been asked more times than I have posts. So please do a search before asking about something that has been disucssed many, many times before.

Also, ANY attempt around the swear filter is now resulting in a ban, according to the head honcho (Allen again, for those of you who didn't know who I meant.)

Please do not attempt to go around the filter, complain about the filter, or yell at things because of the filter. We should all be mature adults (even the 13 and 14 year olds on this site) and should have no reason to have to use words like that. We should have more control over ourselves.

Also, I will not come back to this thread.

I don't care about the filter but I think it's weird that ******d is blocked.

The word up there is " outward. " (Had to use code to get it to show up) Don't ban me for circumventing, Vince, I'm just curious why the filter catches that one & I don't think anyone would be able to figure out what the word was unless I typed it out.
