Or more appropriately, should I do something about it?

I went out to my old company's Christmas party, got drunk at their bar downtown with them and it was a good time. Then afterwards, a few of us went to a couple different bars and got even more hammered. After about 10 hours of solid drinking, I was definitely drunk.

I took a shot that went down the pipes wrong and I decided it was time to go outside to get some air. Well, as I stumbled out the door like a drunkard, the doorman saw me in my intoxicated state and would not let me in. I'd agree that I was overserved and it was time to go home. However, my coat, keys, and credit card were in the bar, and they wouldn't let me go in to get it, or even have an employee go look for it. They said I needed to come back tomorrow.

Meanwhile, it's like 30 degrees out, I'm in the cold without a coat and no keys to get in my place, or cash to get a cab. While I was calm, I explained that this was unreasonable, as I couldn't go home. He explained that he could not let me in. After about 20 minutes of bickering, he threatened to call the cops, I said fine, do it. The cops came but didn't do anything, actually kinda tried to bully me but I was tipsy enough not to care. After I saw that he was not going to side with me, I asked him for his badge number, apparently that's a very bad idea and actually doesn't help him cooperate! Oops.

Finally after like another 20 minutes, one of the girls in line for the bar went in and brought my coat out, still kind of in shock on how she found it as the place was pretty packed. However, I was out in the cold for probably about an hour over this and I'm really ticked off. Should I do something about it, though? The bar itself was really fun and I had a good time until the incident outside.

Yes and no, you were fvcking hammered lol, its partially your fault, but that bouncer/guard was a complete ****ing @sshole to not atleast let you get your things and leave

Pockets. I swear, I can't fathom people who walk in to some place (bar, house, whatever) then when they get up to go to the bathroom, they drop their keys, phone, cash, credit cards, and I.D on some table. I'm not putting my wallet down in a crowded urban night club.

Technically, you could talk to a lawyer and possibly sue for false imprisonment. They were confining you by using the duress of holding onto your credit card, coat, and keys for a substantial period of time.

or if not false imprisonment, then trespass to chattels

Look that place up on google maps and other advertizing sites and write bad reviews. Contact their managers and ask them if they are going to fire that bouncer. Tell him that you'll prevent everyone you know from going back. File a complaint about the unhelpful cops.

BTW obs, I would take that sig off if I were you. Its a great compliment, but using it as a sig, it sorta seems like you're saying 'look at me! I am so great! I am so cool!'. Know what I'm saying?

I probably am going to google the place and write what happened. The bar itself was fun and I had a good time except for that incident, though. Fun enough that I'd still go back if someone wanted to, however I obviously have some reservations due to what happened.

If I went back to the bar and explained to the manager what happened, do you really think he'd do anything? Even if he agreed I was mistreated, which I doubt he'd do, what is a proper way to remedy the situation? It was the first time I'd ever been to this place.

Those bastards endangered your life by not letting you have your stuff to get home since it was freezing out.

Raise as much hell as you possibly can over this.

Write reviews and sue the crap out of somebody.

You were wrong, because you were heavily intoxicated. You couldn't control your drinking, and instead of keeping it cool and drinking in moderation, you went out of control.


They were right, because they don't need an extremely drunk guy inside their place.


As far as your things go, unless some of them were lost or stolen, you have nothing against that place. Should there have been theft of your property, that place is responsible. However, proving that something of yours been stolen is another matter..


Should you catch a cold, a flue, bronchitis, or other aliment related to exposure, you should sick treatment, and then you can sue the place for the amount of money that you spend on yourself..


The most important thing that you did wrong is get so drunk in public place.


Just think about this as bar throwing your a55 out, because it was time for you to leave. You can either control yourself or you need to know people for this to never happen again.
