The American political mainstream really has three sections. There's the far right Republicans, the neoliberal right wing of the Democrats like Obama and Hillary, and the centrist Democrats like Bernie. The Republicans to me, looking on from the outside, are a freak show. But the way they con their voter base is a lot of fun to watch. Obama used slick words and mannerisms to pretend he wasn't working for the Wall Street cabinet he put into his administration, which although it has its funny moments, is more so irritating and frustrating because people think he's on their side. But the Republicans, or I guess I should now say the Trumpublicans, are great entertainment value in of themselves.

The house Democrats can impeach Trump any time, but he still has enough Republican support in the Senate to survive...for now, anyway. Republicans, for all of their "tough on crime' rhetoric, don't see white collar crime as being that serious, no matter how much money gets stolen from taxpayers. The investigations are going to have to dig up more than that, but with House committees kicking into Dem control, subpoenas will start flying.

The best chance of beating Trump in 2020, especially without actually having a candidate, which is where the Democrats are right now, would be to mire him in an impeachment proceeding during the campaign. It would certainly be unprecedented.
