School Election Speech Screw Up

I prepared my school election very well and rehearsed so many times. But when it came to real speaking, in the cafeteria to the grade 11s, I froze up for 20 seconds and my mind went blank for some reason (first time speaking to so many people). And the grade 11s went up laughing like crazy. And i remembered what to say and finished to speech.

In the commons where I spoke to grade 9s and grade 10s, I did so well for some reason because I got embarrased once already.

The problem is: the grade 11s saw me screw up my speech and they laughed like crazy. Whenever I go, the grade 11s will see me and I am afraid that I left a stupid impression... I felt horrible and lost the election

Losing the election is not the main issue, it's just that I screwed up my speech and went blank for 20 seconds and all grade 11s laughed!!

I somehow knew this was coming... And it came...

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I know it's hard but try not to worry about it. Public speaking is not easy, and 90% of the people that laughed at you would be too scared to even go up there, let alone be able to give a good speech.

Besides, it's high school, and people forget this sort of stuff very fast. Just laugh it off for a few weeks and then odds are nobody will mention it, not to mention you will probably be spending more time with people your own age anyway.

Young blood,

Do not fret this. Understand that you are young and inexperienced in public speaking. Take solace in the fact that you are ambitious (as shown through your proclivity for school office) and that you take yourself seriously. BUT! Don't take yourself TOO seriously, if you know what I'm saying.

This is just one of those things where you are going to laugh your arse off about what happened down the road. Trust me. But it's invaluable experience you have gained here. I remember my public speaking class in undergrad. There were students in there who had NEVER talked to an audience before. They were miserable wrecks.

You are already leaps and bounds ahead of your peers because it takes big brass balls to speak publicly, especially in a persuasive format.

SmoothTalker is right though. Some idiot will do something retarded next week and your minor speech hiccup will be long forgotten. If anyone busts your nuts, laugh it off. No worries.

Peace.

Who cares what they think? Laugh at yourself with them, like 'oh my god wasn't that so embarassing? Haha! I looked like such an idiot!!' but above all show you don't care. Don't fake it, you have to genuinely not care and it will show and people will respect you for it; you can steal triumph from the jaws of disaster and amaze everyone, if you have the balls to not care I can guarantee you it will impress everyone.

Do it.

When I walk around the school, and when grade 11s pass me, I will feel embarrased even more.. I used to be a super over confident person, but screwing up and pausing standing there for 20s in front of all grade 11s killed some of my confidence.

I told myself to forget this thing and think positively. But my mind keeps reminding me how I screwed up and think how others will think of me.

I can't control what I think, I tried to control myself not to think about it, but I can't, the more I try the more I think about it.

I see your 'fag' speech, and raise you 'paedophelia jokes' in my school captaincy acceptance speech, lol.
