"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

Hmm. I'm not even sure if this is a problem, but my roommate seemed to think it was a little weird.

I asked this girl from class if she wanted to go out sometime and she gave me her number. I also mentioned to her that I was having a housewarming party and that she should come by. We sit next to each other in class and had seen, but not met each other from a club that I had been the vice-president of.

When I called her to make plans, I invited her to my friend's birthday party (he rented the VIP section of a club in Santa Monica) she said she already had plans and asked if the next friday was okay. So, we were set to go. Then I remembered that that was the day of my housewarming party.

When I saw her a few days later, I told her this as we were walking to our cars. We changed our plans to the Thursday before the housewarming party.

She seems pretty interested. She quickly came up with an alternative date to get together, when she said she already had plans. After we talked on the phone, she kinda giggled and said, "thanks for calling." In class, when the teacher says stupid ****, she turns and smiles at me, to see if I'm smiling too, even though we just started talking last week.

The reason I am writing is because we would be going out Thursday night and then she would also be coming to the party on Friday night. I get a bit of a vibe that this might not be the best move right after a first date, but I don't think it's anything like a deal breaker. I'd just like some opinions.

"She Laughed All Night. Then She Ghosted You. Here's Why."

Dinner ran three hours. She laughed at everything. You walked her to her car thinking this one's locked in.

Then: nothing. Two texts. No reply. What happened?

You did what most men do on a great date. You filled every silence, answered every question, and left her with nothing to wonder about. No mystery. Nothing to sit with when she got home.

Rule 3 of the "22 Rules" changes the ending: tell her a little, hold back the rest, and let her imagination do the chasing. The ghosting stops too.

go for it

Sounds like she really likes you. I think hanging out 2 days in a row is pretty cool. Good luck and just enjoy your time with her.

You ain't go no problems here. Don't be all clingy with her the second night and you should be home free.

How's Santa Monica? I have a buddy out there and been thinking of flying out and checking it out...never been to LA.....
