Master Don Juan
I've always moved from apartment to apartment, not by choice, but because of certain situations. Now, this is finally the year that I actually want to stay where I live. It's a beautiful place and the rent/utilities is REALLY low for the area. I love my landlords and the people in the other apartments.
Needless to say, I don't want to move out, but I also don't know how to proceed. I'm looking for advice from landlords/tenants on this website that can lend a hand.
What's the general procedure when getting a new lease? Do I come to the landlord first and ask him if there is a new deal to be made? Or do I wait for him to come to me?
I really would want to avoid a huge increase in rent for the next coming year, so what are sticking points to try to "negotiate this"? Anyone have any tips?
My lease ends on Oct 31st so I'm sure they/I would bring it up within the next month or so just so I could look for other apartments in case we can't work something else.
I figured I hold some leverage since they know me from work and my landlord's sisten in law works with me as well. I ALWAYS pay on the first of the month and have never been late nor avoided them. I've never caused a ruckus and I don't drink anymore as well, so I've never been the loud drunk. I'm pretty much never home, so it's not like I'm racking up on utilities other than the A/C some of the nights of this endless heatwave.
So, what comes next? What should I be doing or saying?
