I do great at parties, concerts and social events, but i've never been able to walk up to a girl in a random location and get her number.
I've been wanting to change that.
Last night I decided it was time, and i told myself that i would flirt with someone if i thought they were hot. Since i needed to buy some stuff anyway, I went to Target.
I walked around and saw one girl who was pretty hot. Not 10/10 but reasonable, and her height was perfect.
I was prepared to walk up and go for it, i had the perfect game plan, but I could not think of a way to open. If she was looking at movies it would have been great, but she was looking at birthday cards or something. I ended up not saying anything, and felt like sh!t for failing. So I went to WalMart across the street to attempt it again, and i ran into her again.
I'm gonna type out what happened and would like some feedback/criticisms about my approach. I'm not sure she was into it, but i don't really care. I was just glad i actually went for it. I know it'll be easier next time, so don't hold back on the criticism.
She was with her non-attractive friend in the office supply section. I caught her eye at Target so when she saw me again I said
"Weren't you just at Target?"
"yea"
"what are you trying to get?" - for some reason her friend started laughing here. the girl i was talking to blushed
"just this paper stuff"
-she was showing me, and i took it out of her hand to look at it. it was blank papers for making lists.
I looked at her basket and there was four packs
"wow how many lists do you need to make?" - her friend was now bent over laughing
"ha it's for work"
-this is where i ****ed up. obviously i should've asked her where she works to look for some IOIs in her response, but for some reason i just said something along of the lines of
"oh ok cool, list making is a really important job (of course i smiled when i said this so she got the sarcasm). what's your name, by the way?"
"Amanda"
"hi, im Dave, nice to meet you" - then i shook her hand, for some reason
she said something after, probably just "yea nice meeting you"
and then i walked away after saying, "good luck with your shopping."
Ultimately I failed for not even asking her number. i was very out of my comfort zone doing this, and i'm happy i finally did it.
Usually i'm good at reading emotions and interest, but not with this girl, which makes me feel like she wasn't interested. I'm sure i seemed somewhat tense, possibly too serious, but i was pretty nervous. I was smiling and trying to seem funny, which usually isn't a problem. I felt like the whole thing was really rushed.
Thoughts on the conversation and opener?
WTF did the laughter mean?
It seemed negative, but the confident part of me thinks it was more just surprise a guy was bold enough to do this.
The girls were 19 or 20, i'm guessing.
