i'm 23 yrs old and work at an ambulance based fire dept. There is this younger 20 yr old ER tech that started working at the hospital where we bring our patients in. She is a really nice looking girl who seems to have her head on her shoulders and is very intelligent with a great personality. I talked to her several times and she seemed interested so i asked her out and she said yes. I waited about 2 or 3 days to call and i finally called her and we talked just a few minutes before we had a date set. I work 2 jobs so its hard for me to get a whole day off so we just went out to eat for lunch. The date seemed to go really well and she showed alot of interest in me. I told her i'd like to take her out again and she said that she'd love to go out a second time. Another lady at the hospital also told me she liked me after we went out on the first date. I'm not the type to call a girl to many times so i know i didn't bother her. But a few days later i seen her at the hospital and asked her about going out on this certain day and she said shed love to. well i called her that day and she didn't answer but called back about an hour later. She said she couldn't go out b/c her friend from Paris is leaving the next day and she wanted to see her. the only thing is when we talked she sounded like she actually wanted to talk and not get off the phone. she apologized and seemed very interested in what i had to say. we talked for about 5 minutes i acted like it was no biggie that she canceled and then told her i had to go. A few days later i called her while i's at the fire station and left a message to see if she would want to go out for dinner. they'll let you off for an hour or 2 on the weekends. But she never called back and haven't heard from her since. its been about a week. this girl is kind of a bookwarm, but not a dork, very attractive with a good attitude. any suggestions. is she just playing hard to get

OK, anytime you get into a situation like this, the very best thing to do is to find another girl. You don't necessarily have to let this one go, but you need to have another one in your "selection pool" so that just in case things don't work out with this girl, you have your other girls on board.
What you are going through is something that ALL guys go through, no matter how good with women they are. I call this the "Limbo Phase" - you don't know where you're at with the girl. You don't know whether she's into you or not into you, she's basically giving you MIXED messages.
Women VERY often blow us off after being open and freindly to us because they KNOW that it PUTS you in the Limbo Phase. Women want you to remain in the Limbo Phase because it allows them to have some control over you and they can capitalize on making you feel more attraction for them.
The DJ Bible teaches the same stuff, except applied to getting women. We teach guys to play hard to get, send mixed message, and the like. The truth is is that I honestly would not worry about it AT ALL. This is perfectly normal.
The one thing you DON'T want to do is call ATTENTION to the fact that you are insecure, or that you notice her blowing you off. Just keep on keeping on and everything's gonna be alright.
