Question about T-bar Rows I Did

I wanted to mix up my back routine so I made myself a make shift T-bar by taking off one end of my Olimpic weight bar sticking it in a corner and loading up the other end.

Now after I was through with a few sets and reps I had the most wonder pump in my back better then I had doing Bend Over Rows my lats were pumped as well as the rest of my back.

Here is my question the way I gripped the bar was with my hands above the weights and in a baseball grip style and on each set I alternated my hands and brought the weight to my chest.

Now does placement of hands make a difference in this excercise cause I see on the regular equipment of a T-bar that placement of the hands is behind the weights and I did it above the weights is the reason I ask?

Instead of the baseball grip, go steal the v-grip off of one of the cable machines and stick the bar in the crotch of the v-grip.

I do my workouts at home so don't have access to the V-grip but thanks anyway but maybe I can make something up to fit.

If I understand what you mean, they will probably be a loss of range of motion. That's why a T-bar is being used vs simply gripping the bar with both hands.

I suggest you to do regular barbell rows. You could do them with 1 hand too (1hand barbell row).

I sometimes maybe don't explain myself or articulate what I'm trying to ask but the link below is an example of what I did and it answered my question.

I have to put my hands behind the plates and it's as good as a regular T-bar row and a good routine to add to back work if you don't have excess to a T-Bar Row equipment.

No problem, great initiative to show us what you meant.

To answer your question: the way you're doing t-bar row, leads to a decreased rom. Decreased rom allows more weight to be pulled, but development of strength/muscles is less than on a full t-bar row.

My opinion:
do the t-bar rows like you're doing them, but don't forget to do full rom rows (barbell rows, 1 hand barbell rows, pendlay row, dumbbell row, chin-ups, pull-ups).

Thanks stronglifts, I definitely will continue doing the bend over rows just wanted to mix it up a bit with the T-bar but good insight.
