Pros and cons of being a cop!

I am not a police officer and have no desire to be one, but here are my opinions:

Pros: Good Pay, comradery and pride, power trip if it makes you feel better.

Cons: Crummy hours, stressful, depressing (IMO) and people hate your guts.

It seems to me most people (law abiding citizens) take the police for granted and only see them as that jerk who is looking to make you a ticket victim.

Pro: Know you can make a difference in people's lives.

Con: every so often you might be shot at.

I'm considering a job in law enforcement in a year or so thanks for the thread Mahon.

Being a Cop is a respectable career, but your gonna have to love doing it, not just a job. Think about going into the army first, people respect you and you get great benefits when you retire.

Just 99% of them. I really respect cops, but was this really necessary?:

I park my bike inside the mall, chained to a lamp post because it is being remodeled and the bike racks are unavailable. So... I buy my porn, oops I mean clothes, and I eat something, and I come back 30 minutes later to find my bike has completely vanished, chain and all. . Now I go up to the Information booth, and ask for my bike, and I see this cop riding it full speed down the frickin mall and laughing. He then brings it over, and he "had to snap my bike chain" because it can't be inside? He said "park it in front of the telephone booth", which is stupid because what if someone needs to use it?

Anyways, I like cops, just not when they try to arrest me for throwing a football in front of my house. This actually happened. I was playing catch with myself, and a cop pulls up and starts accusing me of running from him. He also started accusing me of lying to him because I said I wasn't selling drugs in the middle of my street with my football and P.E shorts.

I like cops, just not when they're within a mile of me.

Do not become a cop if you even have to think about it. This is one of those professions that you should already have a burning desire for. If not, pass it up. You're not doing yourself any good and may end up doing a large amount of harm (to yourself, family, and community).

Guys who get into the career just because the good pay, etc, disgust me. I see them on the same dumb level as stupid assess who join the military for the benefits (college assistance, etc), get called to war, and then try to get out of the call for duty. Or whining about how it's not fair. Don't even get me started on those homo's who complain to the media.

I remember the story of the 3 girls who joined up for the benefits and ended up going to to Iraq. 1 died and now their family is fighting to bring the girls back saying it's not "fair". They didn't join up thinking they'd actually have to fight.

What the fvck ever. No pity. Don't join if you're not ready to pay the price. This goes for military, police, fire fighters, doctors, paramedics, and all of a similar ilk.

I plan to major in criminal justice and have to say if you want to get into law enforcement their are plenty of alternatives if your still young like me you can join the military and try to become a cop their.Or you can become a bounty hunter or privat investigator.Don't let others make decisions for you i would love to be a homicide detective or filmmaker or club owner see what I mean keep your option open forget what ever your counselor says.
