Hi guys. I never got motivated enough to keep a journal on here, but I have been at the gym every other day (usually) for two months now. Few observations and questions.

1) I can see a difference in the mirror for sure. I also feel like I've nearly doubled my strength. I weigh 135lb and am now repping on the bench press @ 115, and using 30 lb free weights. However, I've gained at most 3 lbs. I guess that makes me a hardgainer.

2) For the most part, I've been ****ing around with the machines and free weights, just kind of copying what I see other people do. It's time to get serious about a routine. I discovered the Strongs 5x5 online... what do you guys thing of that. Good starter routine? I don't really know how to do most of the standard lifts, etc, so I need something to teach me good technique the first time.

3) I've been trying to eat healthier and in greater quantities, but without success so far. I guess I'll just keep trying to up the caloric intake until I finally notice some weight gain. I've been eating a lot of canned tuna/salmon, Scottish oats, fruit/veggies, whole wheat homemade bread, and occasionally eggs and steaks, etc. Everything seems to be there. I guess I just need to eat more and more.

You should be eating like 2500-3000 calories at your bodyweight.

5x5 is fine if it means you aren't copying what other people in the gym are doing.


Buy starting strength second edition to learn the lifts. You won't regret it.

Hell yeah dude! This **** will make you explode. Bust your ass. Don't be afraid to pile on the weight after you get your form solid.

Lazy easy meal ideas for bulking:
Half-pound lean ground beef fried in a pan with a can of corn and some spices. Dump shredded cheese in if you want.

Fried tilapia! Cheap as hell, tastes great. Heat pan, pour extra virgin olive oil into the pan, dump a little marinade in after. Put two fillets on top. Pour a little more marinade on them, add some spice on top of that. Flip after three minutes, take out after three minutes, eat!

Mass-gaining healthy shake:
1 Banana
Cup of yogurt
Cup of Quaker oatmeal
2 scoops your preferred protein powder
Tablespoon Cinnamon
Whole milk to the desired level
Blend!

Also, drinking a lot of whole milk in general will make you explode.
