"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

So a few weeks ago an old acquaintance from highschool gives me an email. We email each other a few times. Then I decide to call her. We chat for a while and I end the convo with a date invitation. She agrees. A few days later I call her back to finalize the details of the evening. Now she says a friend of hers from out of town (female) is going to be visiting that day. She will be bringing this friend of hers along to dinner.

I was really hoping to have more of a date atmosphere rather than a social gathering. I'm wary of getting stuck in the dreaded friend zone.

Am I overreacting to this situation?

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

Its never a good thing when a woman brings another person to go on a date with you.

I do suspect however that you did not imply that in was an actual date and she might have mistaken your invitation as a friendly get together and nothing more.

However if you indicate to her that it was a date situation and she decided to act all naive like she doesn't know you meant "A real date and not a get together" then its up to you to decide upon your coarse of action.

You can either cancel the evening and tell her you will call her another time in which case if she decides to bring another friend the following invitation then you know she is not intrested.

Or you can go out with them and try to hit on the both of them and see which one you get a better response and which one you should be hooking up with. If you get a negative response from both women then you know they don't see you this way and you can either walk away from the evening or start to hassle other women's phone number on the premises, or you can even ask them to help you with hooking up through their single friends.

Yeah, I suppose I did not use the word "date" when I asked her out. I said that her and I should get together and get coffee soon. She agreed and suggested dinner and a movie as other possible options.

Overall I think she has high IL. Her friend is from way out of state and will be staying with her. I suppose her friend coming along is a consequence of her not wanting the friend to sit alone in a strange city while she goes on a date.
