"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

Alright. So I'm a journalism major, and for my final project, I have to pick something I find wrong with the media. I was thinking of doing it about the way men are treated/depicted in the media.

Just today I read an article on CNN titled "Are Men Really This Stupid?"--which was basically about the tiger woods, john edwards, and other high profile men of the world who can't keep it in their pants.

Are you kidding me? Do you think I could write an article titled "Are Women Really This Stupid?" and use a bunch of trashy celeb females to blast the entire gender and get away with it? I'd more than likely lose my job.

Almost every sitcom or commercial now presents the same man--dumb, beer drinking, uncultured, pu$$y hound who's wife uses sex as a gift, and she's also the level headed one who keeps the family grounded, and serves as brains of the relationship.

My question is--will this ever stop?

Every other group has protection. Minorities, women, religious groups, homosexuals, transgender, etc.

For the hetero man, no one is there to stick up and fight back. I chalk it up to the man having to be "the man" and just suck it up and roll with the punches, and guys fear that they'll look like a sissy if they complain; but seriously, how long are we going to let this continue?

My biggest problem is women get fed this stuff and actually start to believe all men are like this.

Will there ever be a changing of the tide or is this pretty much it?

"So, What Do You Do for Fun?"

She asks it casually, mid-sip. And you feel the floor open up, because the honest answer is work, gym, and a couple shows you're half-watching.

Women rarely say this out loud, but a man with a life is attractive before he says a word. The guy who spent Saturday deep-sea fishing and came back with photos and a story — he walks in already interesting.

The "22 Rules" pushed me to build a life worth talking about. Turns out the fastest way to be interesting to women is to be interested in your own life first.

It will stop eventually. It is not as bad anymore. The "Home Improvement" days were the worst.

Remember "Married With Children?. I was too young to realize it at the time, but that show was genius. It was pure social commentary. If you read between the lines, that show is about the rise of feminism more than it is about a family. It had all the cliches. Marcy was the feminist. Jefferson was the emasculated male. Al was the resistant male stuck in the macho era. Peggy was the "old" woman before feminism. Think about it.

it's still pretty bad though. judging by some of the female responses to this that i've heard, they basically feel men had it so good for so long that now it's the woman's time to shine.

i'm not asking to go back to when all women were portrayed as stepford wives but damn, not every dude alive is homer simpson
