Anyone see in the news about the polygamamous religious sect busted in Texas. I don't know if anyone watched Larry King on CNN or anything, but these women that were fromerly involved in polygamy are so really ass ugly and dry personality women. They ought to be happy that one guy was willing to share himself with them j/k.

I can't believe polygamy is illegal! If someone wants to live a certain way that should be his or her choice. Who's to decide what's right and what's not? They could just as easily make monogamy illegal... it's been proven that it's unnatural. Erg. This kind of stuff really pisses me off.

I agree, it's f*cked up and makes no sense. People always feel the need to butt into your peaceful life you're living and disrupt it. People need to worry about their own lives, the f*ckin' losers that they are. These people have nothing better to do.

American society still operates the way it did back in Puritanical 1692. No different. People haven't evolved, the gov't hasn't really evolved. That's why there's so many problems. Yes because it's an unsupportable system. If you dig into these polygamy camps you'll find how they work. The leaders throw out young males who won't accept being basically a nueter. The men go out and work and turn over their money to the leaders so he can support his however many wives and children. Also they are connected to national churches who take tithes from people who arenot necessarily practicing polygamy themselves to support the system.

I don't know why anyone would want more than one wife anyway. I mean think about it if your dad had some other woman besides your mom that he had to support and her kids would you be happy about that?

These women that go for polygamy are generally dunce baby making machines who care nothing about a man, only themselves and making children. Having said all that polygamy being illegal doesn't make much sense because a guy could impregnate several different women that he's not married to and he's still on the hook for child support. I guess the reason why it's illegal to marry more than one woman is because the assumption is only he would be having sex with the women if they were all married and this reduces genetic variety.

I agree that men would want to impregnate as many different women as possible if they didn't have to support and father all the children, but there's no advantage to it genetically or to anyone else who may have to foot the bill.

Well then that's just pure stupidity on the member's parts for being involved with such an organization. Still though, nobody twists their arm to become part of their community, so why keep it illegal? If these people wanna be stupid and be taken advantage of, then let 'em.

Just like people who lived 200 yrs ago who didn't have access to automobiles. Did it bother them? No, because they never experienced it. When you have no experience of something in particular, you don't know the effects of it.

I don't disagree and I feel the same way about prostitution should not be illegal. All I was saying is there are sound reason for not favoring polygamy, but I don't think the government really goes after polygamy for he right motivations.

To tell you the truth I'd be happy with with one hot wife that was my own. (Anymore a person can't even consider a wife really his own) And to step out from time to time with another woman. I got to say from watching the news not a one of these polygammist women were hot.

I would say it has more to do with the legal aspect more than the moral, ethical part. It makes society function in a more lawful way when it comes to legal issues if marriage is involved.

The marriage document is away to keep things in check when it comes to things like wills, benefits, social security, insurance, ect.

Can you imagine the fiasco if a polygamist went to work for a company who furnished healthcare insurance for the employee and his family.................

But why is it wrong for a man to have more than one wife. What is the problem with polygyny? Humans are natural promiscuous and we are not monogamist creatures. It's in the mans nature to have sex with as many women as he possibly can.

Obviously marriage is not working the way it is now with the divorce rate over 50%. And if gays get the right to marry in this country, then marriage would have no meaning at all.

In all honesty I can't think of any reasons why it's wrong to have more than one wife or girlfriend at a time. As long as the women are happy, what's the problem. And no, "the Bible says it's wrong" is not an answer.

Polygamy is wrong because it displaces conciderably more males then there are females available. This case is a perfect example of why it will not and can never work on a large scale.

The men in this "relgious compound" had some 20 wives. So that would mean that for the system to work soundly there would have to be 20 women born per every 1 man. Why can't it happen anyway but that? Because that's going against the natural order of things. Survival of the fittest demands competition among males in larger complex animals of everykind in this world. By having 20 wives and assuming consimation of union, and expultion of males born, the number of healthy males who are able to mate would dwindle relativly quickly should a polygamist mentality grip any species completely.

Imagine a world of only women?!! The wars would be catostrophic!!...oh and our species would end...no biggie.

I've already explained why it would be wrong earlier in this thread. It doesn't maximimize genetic diversity-the whole purpose of sex. One man can't generally support mutiliple women and the resulting children as well as a one man per woman can. And like PRMoon pointed out women and men are born at the same rates so if natured intended for a man to have more than one wife this wouldn't be the case. Maxtro, no offense intended but you can't even get one woman now so how much harder do you think it would be if many other men had several wives? People may not all be totally monogamous, but they're not as polygamous as you might think either.

Well child abuse isn't the only charge, polygamy and statutory rape too. But the claim of child abuse is just yours and the government's biased, stupid a*s opinion. For thousands of years and through most of human history females at the age of 13 married much older men.

I was watching an interview on ABC with women that live there, and one was completely certain that she was living in "heaven on earth"...meanwhile the compound looks like a half-as$ed construction site.
