"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

Update

Well turns out the 20 yo coworker just wanted a causal affair after all. BTW before anyone lectures about corworkers she is quitting her job and turned in her notice. For 1.5 weeks she would usually always be the one to intiate contact - the flirting was fun and I was waiting until I had a free weekend to invite her over - she had said she was up for this once I get free time. Then today in the evening I get a text message "You must really want to have sex with me maddxman. I bet you think about it all the time."

Big warning. The tone didn't sound flirtatious, more like she thinks she has me wrapped around her finger. Plus I realized that she still has a week left before she leaves our mutual employer and could do me some real damage. She has a job, I have a career. Ok so let the lectures begin after all.

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

My reply to the text message would be " No more than usual. However, come over tonight"

As long as she is voluntarily going to a new job/life somewhere else, I think it is OK.

She's 20 and your 38. She's getting a kick out of teasing you.

Move on.

Ignore her text message and when she asks in work, just say that you have no interest in dating an immature girl. Be warned though, she could take this thick and try to get back at you through your job. If you fear for your job, play along until she leaves and then say it :)

Do some research into what a 21 year old dates, use a site like craigslist women 4 men personals. Most of them always say "No guys over 30" but they never exclude the late 20s guys like me. I've peroused the site for any woman that's willing to date a late 30s guy like yourself and it seems that when women reach 25-30 they're more open minded about dating a guy like yourself. It's okay to date within the work arena, but you should be more cautious like taking things slower than the usual dating stages. In your case, I think there was some a rush to get into those stages, again you're not a mid-late 20s guy like me who would've had a much higher chance of actually landing a 21 yo. No offense but reality (craigslist.org) will validate my argument.

I have to disagree with Hitman on this one. Who a woman says she's willing to get with and who she really would get with upon meeting him in person are two way different things. I know this from experience.

In any sort of personal ad the "laundry list" takes on a life of its own, and devours everything else in the process. I don't think I'd so much as even exchanged one email with most of the women I'd been involved with had either of us seen a personal ad from the other, rather than meeting in person.

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

Yes.

She has what she wants. She's 20 years old and she wants to find out how much power over men she has. She is still relatively new at the game and wanted to see if she could attract an older man, nearly twice her age. She did great, she got an ego boost, and she will be even more confident around men in the future.

Young guys do this too, do a search for "older women" or "age differences" here and see what you find.

As for you, forget her and move on now. She is three steps ahead of you and has been since the very beginning. If you chase her now it will only show how tightly you are wrapped around her finger.

Yes there was a brief moment when we could have hooked up but it didn't happen, and now the trail is cold. I just told her that we need to lay low until she actually leaves and once she is situated in her new job, she can contact if she wants.

Point is... you know that you did have interest, so you can try hooking up with the youngsters from now on.

Hey, it was a learning experience. The 20 year olds are crazy, I know all about it. "Flaky" is the operative term.

Usually you have to be spontaneous and strike while the iron is hot. Get a gal at the right time and the right situation and she'll do things she'd not consider otherwise.
