As a general rule its better to communicate only the truths which work in your favour, lie could be useful but requires a good planning, a good memory and knowledge of what you are lying about.
It can be useful while you work on yourself so you dont need to lie anymore.
An example of useful truth is to tell you are a professional in financial transfers instead of saying that you are a bank robber, technically you're honest.
If you lie and say that you are an historian, you better know plenty of history at least in the specialization as much as you have to remember what you said any time you meet that person, you cant get invited to a museum and answer that "old stuff is boring".
