Hi, (This is also posted in Anything Else but I wanna know what people here think too)

I'm not writing for people to feel sorry for but because i really want to change.

I'll be off to college after this summer and I'd like some advice on self improvement. Basically, Although I was top of the class most of the time, I felt that i wasted alot of time in high school and i dont want to do the same in college.

I went to highschool where smart kids got a really hard time. I was a blackbelt so no one really bullied me but I was evident (I've overheard alot of back talking) that most guys dont want to associate with you most just cause of your grades (not everyone but most people). I was difficult to make friends so my social skills are bit lacking.

Has anyone been through the same thing? I just find (as it was really difficult to make friends) that my social skills are lacking and it can be depressing at time. I don't want to waste another four years of life.

Ok, let me tell you something.

The only reason people rip on your because you're smart is because they are jealous of you! They dont posess the smarts that you have, and they know it. Therefore they feel threatened and the only way to get over it is to make fun of you.

But listen to this, once you are out of high school(which you are right now), those guys that always ripped on you will be working 10 hour days at the local machine shop making just over minimum wage. The funny thing is, once you graduate from college, you might be the boss of these guys! My dad is an engineer and he used to get crap from some of the guys in the shop, but you just have to shake it off. At the same time, respect these guys too, they work hard.

NEVER put yourself down for being smart. Being smart is the best thing you can ever have. At the same time, however, don't go bragging about how smart you are. That is the worst thing you could do.

It sounds like from what you wrote that it was alot worse where you are than my high school was. You're going to college soon, and at college, EVERYTHING changes. The maturity level is alot higher...(although I have heard stories where it is just the same as high school, doubtful though)

Just use your skills in college, and you will gain confidence because you wont get ripped on...because everyone in college is smart more or less, or they at least have a plan for the future. Best of luck.

On a side note:
I'm going to Milwaukee School of Engineering next year. Is it going to suck as far as women go? You bet. There are 10 guys to every girl. But a large amount of the guys that go there are computer nerds that only talk to girls online (a girl student there told me this) So if this is true, I will be a step ahead of everyone else for the rare hot girl at that school.

Alright thx for the encouragement.

You could actually say I'm kinda lucky. I've done martial arts for many years and thats pretty much the reason I dont get shoved in lockers lol. But in my high school unfortunately if ur grade point average is above a certain range AND you're a new kid (which I match both), you'll hardly make any friends (for guys only: girls.....never see this dunno why).

My self esteem isn't really low or anything and I've had gf in the past (lucky im born good looking so she she asked me out tho). It just my high school is not a great place if you wanna (or need to) study (hence most of my friends are outside school).

Dunno why i'm talking so much, but anyways thx alot. Although i'll probably never meet you thx for everything
