Uplifting, but unrealistic to put so much hope and expectations on any one man. I'm a fan of Obama myself, but like any politician, it's almost impossible to run on pure ideas once you get into office. Politics is about making compromises with opposing parties and trying to be all things to all people. I think Obama is well-intentioned, but I don't think he'll be able to do all the things he's promised, even if he wants to, because he must still work through a framework already in place that limits him. For example, he may have been opposed to the war, but if elected, don't expect him to pull out the troops right away, and if he does draw things down, and things start to sour, he might have to restrategize and keep them in longer which is going to piss off his voters who voted for "hope" and "change". I think he will change things, but people shouldn't fool themselves into thinking that he is going to bring sweeping change or be radically different from any other politician. If people are building him up to be like the 2nd coming of Christ, then they are ensuring their own disappointment.

I already voted for Obama via absentee ballot in Michigan and am a fan of the guy like speakeasy but the will.i.am songs are a double edged sword.

On one hand they could appeal to swing voters and inspire some 18 year olds who don't think about voting to actually get out there and vote and on the other hand this kind of stuff helps Mccain's campaign paint Obama as a celebrity spouting empty rhetoric whose only concern is with maintaining his popular image and celebrity status.

And yes sensible Democrats all know that Obama is not the Messiah and is not going to be anything other than a status quo business as usual politician but we do believe that he's a better status quo business as usual politician to vote for than to have a third Bush term via Mccain/Palin and go to an unnecessary war with Iran and possibly ignite World War III in the process.
