"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

Nice problem to have...but still a problem.

I've been lurking on sosuave for about a month and reading the DJ Bible religiously. I've snapped out of my AFC/Nice Guy mindset, but I still have a bit of a prob.
Background: I'm an HS senior with limited (one GF, but we dated for 9 mos) experience, though I got the nerve to ask a seriously hot sophomore I know through debate to prom.
"Some problem," you say. Well, the tricky part is two-fold.
A. The day after I asked her, she said that, although her parents (who are muy over protective) were okay, she "thought we should go as friends." Maybe I should have nexted her, but I didn't (because I get a slight sense that she may have a rather higher IL than her parents might allow her to show).
B. I'm feeling awkward in the day to day run up to prom. W/ my last gf (who was also a sophomore prom date, although I was a junior at the time), there was little awkwardness since we were both in journalism together and were both very AFC in our attitudes towards each other--whereas w/ this girl I only see her in the hallways intermittently, although we do say "Hi!" and I pick up some pretty strong IOIs from her. I'm sort of fearing an awkward prom night dinner of uncomfortable silence. So, my question is ...
1. How should I be acting in the run up to prom...increase contact or not?
and
2. How can I fill in those uncomfortable gaps (I'm a great conversationalist when I have something to talk about...I just don't know what to talk about).

Any advice will be greatly appreciated by this rAFC.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

Don't go out of your way to see her. But if she initiates conversation then don't ignore her. Keep a balance, like you would with a relationship. You know about give and take right? It should be the same with communication. If it's her turn to call YOU, don't go out of your way to talk to her. Pretty simple.

Things should not be uncomfortable. There's plenty to talk about. Look around you. Just keep and light and interesting. No crazy moves. You don't want to **** **** up right before prom.

Thanks. That's basically been my plan.
