A true follower of Paul, not Christ. The Catholic church was responsible for what is called "the Inquisition" where they'd hold a cross up to "suspected" witches/nonbelievers etc and if that person did not repent right there on the spot, they'd set him/her aflame all-the-while as he/she was burning alive asking him/her to repent (even though he/she was already half-way dead).

Popes take a vow of celibacy, so I don't think they fall under the AFC/DJ type categories.
As someone said in the comments, why is it surprising to find out that people had a life before they entered religious service?
Sounds like he loved a girl before he became a priest. That's something a lot of young men do, it's part of life. Does that really make him an AFC? Would you have been happier if he was a player?

They could actually join back together for the first time since the Great Schism in the Middle Ages. That would be really cool to see, as a Catholic.
The doctrine is very, very similar.
This is going to be a watershed year, culturally.
