Need someone good with computers

I recently ordered a computer from cyberpowered.com
i got to choose all of the parts on it.
i ordered a 8600 gt, but when i was installing the drivers for it, the CD said it was a 9600 gt. Whenever i boot up my computer or go to canirunit.com, it says my computer has a 9600 gt, but i think that's just because of the drivers that i installed, and maybe someone packed the wrong CD.

it doesn't look like a 9600 gt cause all the one's i've seen have huge plastic coverings and slickers on it, but this one doesn't. it's just green with a huge copper fan.

so my question is, are there any tests i can run to see if i got a 8600 gt or a 9600 gt?
i can run crysis with close to perfect fps (60) on medium.
on high, it's playable but lags a little bit. (like 40 fps)
and on very high, it's like 20 fps.

I'd say it's a 9600GT.

If you tried to install the wrong drivers it wouldn't have worked.

download a program such as dr. hardware to see what hardware u have. go to www.nvidia.com to download the latest nvidia drivers.

It would say 9600GT because BIOS on the video card says it's 9600 GT...


A thing you SHOULD do is power off your computer, remove power cable, and open it. Take out the video card, and take a great big picture of it, and post it here. If you're comfortable with it.

Also look on front and back of the card, it should have some clues written in it, such as serial number, model number, or model name.




Knowing NVIDIA there is a real possibility for bugs inside thier BIOS, and even inside their chip structure. So it could be an 8600GT, and just says 9600GT. On the other hand it could be a mistake, and you could have gotten a 9600GT.
