I want to get my deadlifts up a lot. First time I ever tried them and progressed up a bit in weight i kinda messed my lower back up. Anyone got solid tips on technique I could learn from? Or a link, video? As detailed as possible too.

Thanks.

Start light and work your way up. Learn form and technique.

Heres a couple tips off the top of my head.

1. Start out using a double over-hand grip. Its safer on the biceps and trains your grip, which you need to have a strong grip for a big deadlift.

2. Your arms should be like hooks when deadlifting. Keep them long and straight, dont yank on the bar or bend your arms.

3. Keep your low back arched. Its okay if your upper back rounds, just try to keep your lower back in a neutral position.

4. Set up with the bar 1-2 inches from your shins. Your shins should only be touching the bar when you bend down. Unless you have really really strong hamstrings.

5. Work on your weaknesses. As they say a chain is only strong as its weakest link. Generally: Low back, Abs, Hamstrings + Upper Back. Bring those areas up and so will your deadlift.

Good Luck!

Thanks.again. Tried the guy from youtube advice today. Started light. So when u guys deadlift with proper form and you get a good workout in....where do you feel it mostly? Lower back? That's where I feel it now and not necessarily in a bad way...which is a first for me. Wanna make sure I'm on the right path here.

I agree...but you've gotta have that brute strength first
Maybe you are a genetic freak...cuz I sure as hell don't think it's from you not working hard enough in the gym lol

Bad advice for the general public right here. It may work for you, but you are the oddball. Maybe you are a genetic freak or a natural athlete, I don't know. But for most people, form is number 1.

Or just lucky so far. He's one bad injury away from keeping his mouth shut.

are you in shape though, or are you one of those guys who lifts heavy weights but still has a physique like chris farley's ?
Either way, I'd still take the advice of countless experts in the field over an anonymous dude on sosuave. Especially one that condones using bad form. That's comparable to listening to some stupid b1tch who tells you to not get your kids vaccinated. Always take science over random bullsh1t.

10%bf,90kgs at 5'8". i think now its 11% since i had some fvcking beer last night and slept at 6 am... i have no idea who chris farley is, although it does ring a bell.
i am strong due to the fact that nobody ever told me "dude 315 is heavy! " or "dude 400lbs is such a big deal". i train alone.
my mentor ,is my ancient laptop. i live in the middle of nowhere (ocean) and have access to nothing, not even whey.i think i should post pics of my gym ,it looks like a dungeon in a tarantino movie.

i have nothing to prove other than to myself.and i did,my wheelchair lies in a scrap yard as we speak.

I'm assuming you grew up in America or some other English speaking country, and have been wondering, how'd you end up where you are now?

i grew up in the UK,did most of my life in london then middle east.
as to where i am,its a really long story.i was supposed to work in murica but there was a last minute change and a twist of fate(more like corporate politics) sent me to this sh!thole to rot.

im in a tourist trap right now and i can finally leave this god forsaken island on feb 2015

its full of tourists all year round and its fvcking annoying.

trust me, palm trees and sandy beaches are only amazing for the first 3 weeks, after that its annoying. drinking coconut water every day or whatever westerners do when they come here is outright boring.i mean they pay 600$ per night to come here...really? lol, (there are cheaper rates but this side of the island has more traps)

good side is that i got high quality booty bcuz i could demonstrate my body on the beach and get rich girls on vacation.chicks on vacation are like chicks on viagra.
point : dont let ur girl travel alone.

A follow up. Having recently gone to a different program to gain strength, it called for new movements I had not been doing. Deads, front squats, Bb rows mostly. Guess what happened? Tweaked my lower back. I think the front squat and dead have really exposed it being weak.

Sooo, been watching a lot of Elliots vids and trying to put into practice his methods. I think these lifts are crucial to me being stronger, bigger over time...just right now I can do hardly any weight. Am I thinking right by keeping these staples in my workouts but dropping in poundage significantly? I know they can expose lower back/overall weaknesses, but can they also help rehab them too if should I be doing other seperate supplemental excwrcises to address that too?

Haha. Are you trying to get him to snap city?!? Don't listen to this guy. Drop the ego, and drop your weight until you have perfect form. Push yourself, but NEVER compromise form.
